COD Ghosts Achieves $1 Billion in Retail Sales on Day One
COD Ghosts clocked in $1 Billion in retail sales on day one of the FPS’ release, according to a press release from Activision. The game launched at midnight, Tuesday morning to over 15,000 stores worldwide.
According to the Activision press release, COD Ghosts is currently #1 on Xbox Live. The publisher also confirmed that average player sessions for the game have been longer than either Black Ops II or Modern Warfare 3, during the same post-launch time period.
“Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation,” according to Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.”
“This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title.” added Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently available for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. Next gen versions of the game will be available at console launch for the PS4 and Xbox One. The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. For more information, visit the official Call of Duty website at www.callofduty.com/ghosts, on www.facebook.com/CODGhosts and on Twitter @InfinityWard.
