Delay Hits XBox One's Beta For The Division
There’s been a change in plans for the testing phase of The Division, Ubisoft’s shooter set in post-apocalyptic New York. Originally the beta for the game would have gone out later this month for XBox One gamers who preordered it….but Ubisoft has changed their minds and now prefers to do beta-testing cross-platform, meaning the One, PS4 and PC versions will all have their betas launch at the same time in early 2016.
Why? The better to test the servers with. “This means the moment you and other players sign into the game, you’ll be giving us valuable insight into how our infrastructure performs under pressure that we can’t replicate internally or at a tradeshow,” Ubisoft says.
But if you were looking forward to the beta before Christmas, Ubisoft has something else for you: the alpha. XBox One gamers will still get something exclusive; an earlier version of the game that they’ll have to sign an NDA just to play. The alpha game begins today and you’ll need to make room if you want it — it’s 23.2 GB.
The full game’s release date has not changed; it’s still scheduled to come out March 8, 2016 for XBox One, Playstation 4 and PC.
