If you’re still playing Destiny on the Playstation 3 or XBox 360, you’re running on borrowed time. When Bungie introduced their next expansion, Rise of Iron, at E3 they also confirmed that support for most events in the game would be dropped on last-gen consoles.
This doesn’t include everything, but might as well: access to live events will be cut off, as well as Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner Crucible matches. The ability to purchase individual exotic weapons and armor from Xur will also disappear. Bungie will also be disabling the majority of ways to purchase in-game currency.
With the entry point having dropped to $279 (and lower used), there’s really no excuse to not own a current-gen console at this point. But you might be wondering if your account and everything you’ve done in Destiny will be transferable once you upgrade. It’d be a pretty lousy afterthought if you couldn’t, right?
It is indeed simple. All you need is a PS4 or XBox One and a copy of Destiny: The Taken King for either respective machine. From there you can perform an “account import” using your PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account.
Destiny: Rise of Iron comes out for PS4 and XBox One on September 20. You’ve got until then to find a new console….
