Destiny: The Taken King Beats PS4 Sales Record

by on 09/17/2015

Destiny’s second chance, as it were, has fared better than its first. The Taken King has gathered much better reviews than the original Destiny and now it’s sold much better, too. It cleaned house digitally: on the Playstation, The Taken King broke the sales record for most copies downloaded on the first day of release.
“Destiny: The Taken King is officially the most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history and set a new benchmark for both total Destiny players and peak online concurrency on day-one, so it’s safe to say the Destiny franchise continues to gain momentum,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Along with our talented partners at Bungie, we cannot wait to watch the community continue to grow and tackle the King’s Fall Raid kicking off on Friday.”
The Taken King is available for plenty of other systems, but Playstation owners had a reason to prefer that machine: the PS4 version has several exclusive bits of content including an extra Strike, a Crucible map, three sets of armor and an exotic weapon, all of which will remain exclusive to the console for one year.
Many who purchased Destiny’s expanded edition were newcomers to the series who didn’t see enough value in the purchase until now. This time, the package is beefy, at least in the Legendary Edition: Destiny, Expansion I: The Dark Below, Expansion II: House of Wolves, and The Taken King, all at the cost of a normal game at $59.99. If you already have Destiny, The Taken King is cheaper to get as a stand-alone, and can be added to your game for $40.
Destiny: The Taken King is now available physically and digitally for PS4, PS3, XBox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
