Destiny: The Taken King Is Appearing On PS4 Dashboards Of People Who Didn't Buy It
People who own Playstation 4s and don’t consider themselves part of the Destiny bandwagon got a bit of a surprise this morning when they turned on their systems and found the game’s logo sitting there, on their dashboard, next to their regular games. Did they just get the game for free? Not exactly.
Here’s the deal: it has to do with a feature on the Playstation 4 they call “personalized curated content,” or in other words, the ability to analyze your purchase history and determine which games you might be interested in next.
The PS4 system has the ability to learn about your preferences. It will learn your likes and dislikes, allowing you to discover content pre-loaded and ready to go on your console in your favorite game genres or by your favorite creators.
Since a lot of PS4 gamers play FPSes, they’re getting “recommended” The Taken King by having the logo involuntarily put on their dashboard. Before you cry foul, realize that there IS a way to get rid of it if you don’t like it. From the PS4 home screen, go to Settings. Scroll down to System, then select Automatic Downloads and uncheck the Featured Content option. The Destiny logo will vanish and you’ll never be bothered again.
Sony is naturally banking on most of their users not being this savvy and willing to purchase The Taken King through that link. “As long as I’m here….”
