Doom's Got Six Multiplayer Modes — See Them All
There are six different ways you can mess around with friends (or total strangers) in Doom. Three are traditional and three are new.
On the traditional side we have Domination, which involves your team taking hold of three specific areas across the map; Team Deathmatch (you know how that works); and Clan Arena, a type of deathmatch but without the aid of pickups or health restorers.
Things get more creative with the other three: Soul Harvest is sort of like Team Deathmatch, but with the added mechanic of defeated players turning into skull icons, which can be collected and added to your score (but only those from the opposing team truly count).
Freeze Tag is a slightly less violent (though your mileage may vary) type of match where your targets wind up frozen instead of blown up. You can destroy the frozen ones, but it’s not necessary. If an entire team is frozen at once the opposing team wins.
Finally there is Warpath, a variant on king-of-the-hill style games where the area you want to control is in constant motion. Sometimes you won’t want to be anywhere near it, as it passes over pits and hazards, but other times you’ll be fighting to occupy it or chasing after it. Winning team is the one with the highest score, not whoever is in the zone at the end.
You can see all these modes in action in Bethesda’s new multiplayer trailer below. Doom comes out for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC on May 13.
