EA Confirms New Battlefield For 2016
AAA gaming giant Electronic Arts announcing another first-person shooter is like getting an announcement that the sun will continue to rise tomorrow, but nevertheless, they held another investor’s conference today to confirm it.
EA is currently planning to release a new Battlefield game in 2016, they said. The timing is going to be tight. The last mainline Battlefield was released in 2013. Another Battlefield was hinted shortly after, but between then and now, Star Wars was handed over to Disney and Lucasarts ceased to be an entity. Disney has instead been licensing the Star Wars property to third party companies, and this included EA, who set DICE to work on Star Wars Battlefront, a Battlefield-like shooter set during the time of the original trilogy, with many of its most popular characters playable.
Now DICE has its hands full getting Star Wars Battlefront ship-ready for this holiday season. Can they still deliver the next Battlefield one year after this?
EA seems to think so. They’ll be unveiling the first footage from the next Battlefield at Gamescom later this year, and they said they expect “a tremendous reponse” from it.
