I'm making cauliflower Cajun rice and beans tonight. I'm obsessed, at this point I always have at least 3 bags of it my freezer.

ETA: Dinner was delish! Red beans and cauliflower rice with andouille chicken sausage.

Trying to get 150g of protein per day is kind of killing me. I'm 5'5" and although I'm not small by any means it just seems like a lot of protein. Never did I think I would need to force myself to eat.

That's a ton of protein. Why so much, are you training?

Lift heavy, eat clean! <3 It took me 30 years to embrace the kind of body type that I am, but now I love it and would hate to be called "skinny".

I made cauliflower fried rice. My husband, who is an executive chef, thought it was quinoa!

I ate carbs for breakfast. A whole plate of them. Part of me feels guilty and part of me tells me to enjoy life before I get hit by a bus. That part of me won.

Anyone ever purchased organic food online? I've been tasked with purchasing some organic nuts and honey and then having them shipped. I've found numerous websites but have no idea if they are reliable.

Not sure why this is pinned but anyway.
Has anyone noticed the fact that healthy food is much more expensive than unhealthy food?
Living in the UK (Belfast; Northern Ireland) we wanted to leave England's union, but did England listen, noooo; they sent paratroopers to shoot dead 14 unarmed civilian marchers, set up concentration "internment" camps and recently have repeatedly violated the good Friday agreement (our armistice) as Brexit looms. Food prices are steadily climbing and even supermarkets are seeing shortages; we aren't even out of the EU yet.
    2 corn cobs = £1.50
A bag of kale is about £2
    Spring onions are overpriced
Recipe seasonings and sauces (I used to make lots of chicken or vegetable stir fries) have risen too. Even baked beans are up in price!

The government and news talk of an "obesity crisis" (and I'm over 100 kilos now!, I used to eat super healthy and do lots of cycling and walking; though my knee which was shattered due to a car running me over at 17 as well as almost fully tearing my ACL and PCL. I was told by the knee specialist that he had never seen someone with such badly torn and scarred ligaments that hadn't gone real bad or lost mass and snapped in the weeks after; I was told I had osteoarthritis in the knee at 22. At 25 I could barely walk 3/4 miles (due to pain, not due to breathlessness or other lack of fitness) and it's got worse over the past year and a bit.

Living by myself buying; in large quantities for value means eating the same meals daily to save money.

You would think that with the government bickering about an "obesity epidemic" and the news shouting about it too the government would step in and drop, or even halve VAT (Value Added Tax, set at 20%) on food items which are healthier than the cheap, fast and unhealthy alternatives.

It would cost me £2 (unless McDonald's have raised the price to £1.50) to make a fake big Mac (two "poundsaver" beef burgers on top of each other), which i ate regularly between 17 and 21 yet had a six pack and a good physique due to being able to do long walks, cycling to all friend's houses rather than getting a bus, once the knee got unbearable I stopped eating that crap and tried to live healthily but simply couldn't afford it.
Doctors are nervous to give me more than naproxen for the pain too because of the prescription opiate crisis.... In the USA.
So I have to suffer intolerable pain, intolerable food prices, see stretch marks on my belly every day; as if I had been pregnant (which I could pass off as pregnancy stretches if I were a woman) and to top it all off, I was offered an internship to be a SCUBA instructor months before being roadkill; that was my dream job. Can't hire a cripple to carry heavy steel tanks of air in each hand into a rocking boat as my knee would likely give way and I would be injured on their watch, which I fully understand. I wouldn't hire someone with an injury like mine to work full time on and off boats with heavy gear.

TL;DR despite complaining about an obesity epidemic the UK does nothing (such as a tax cut on healthy food) to get people eating healthy. It's almost like they want us dying young rather than getting pension money into our nineties.

Health food pricing in the US is more expensive as well...it's something that always irks me. I have to go to a "health food store" to get certain ingredients that the regular stores just don't carry at all. I'm wondering though if more and more people would budget for and purchase higher quality foods, and demand higher quality, the demand would go up so the price could come down a bit? It's hard to say, and i think it's complicated. But yes, i really wish higher quality foods were available for everyone's income levels.
