Michael Collins has died at age 90 of cancer.:(

Of the three astronauts who went to the moon on Apollo 11, he's the one who got ripped off and had to stay in the command module orbiting the moon while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin got to go to the moon. LOL, I bet *that* p!ssed him off!

Now of the original moon astronauts only Buzz Aldrin remains alive.

Anyway, this was him as a younger man (center) flanked by Armstrong and Aldrin. Another hero passes on.:(:(:(

What were people's thoughts at the time of the moon landing? Here is part of the conversation between the President, Richard Nixon, and Neil Armstrong (on the moon):

"Nixon: Hello, Neil and Buzz. I'm talking to you by telephone from the Oval Room at the White House. And this certainly has to be the most historic telephone call ever made from the White House. I just can't tell you how proud we all are of what you have done. For every American, this has to be the proudest day of our lives. And for people all over the world, I am sure that they too join with Americans in recognizing what an immense feat this is. Because of what you have done, the heavens have become a part of man's world. And as you talk to us from the Sea of Tranquility, it inspires us to redouble our efforts to bring peace and tranquility to Earth. For one priceless moment in the whole history of man, all the people on this Earth are truly one: one in their pride in what you have done, and one in our prayers that you will return safely to Earth.

Armstrong: Thank you, Mr. President. It's a great honor and privilege for us to be here, representing not only the United States, but men of peace of all nations, and with interest and a curiosity, and men with a vision for the future. It's an honor for us to be able to participate here today"

Wow, what a coincidence. Today, our grill cook and I were talking about another Michael Collins. One that he was actually named after. (Collin is his middle name).
Michael Collins, who had led the IRA.

I remember the moon landing. We were all glued to our sets. I saved the local paper with the headline “Man lands on the Moon” or some such, but after I married and left the house, my mother threw it away. That woman had no sense of history, lol. RIP Michael Collins.

Oh no! I adored her in Moonstruck, one of my favorite movies.
Who could forget her iconic line, “Old man, you give those dogs another piece of my food I’m gonna kick you ‘til you’re dead”, lol, Lord she could deliver a line.

Then there’s Steel Magnolias too! LOL

    RIP Ms. Dukakis.

Kevin (Freddie Jones) Clark has died. He was riding his bike, when hit by a car.

I was out of town when he died and didn’t hear about this until my husband and his brother decided to watch Lethal Weapon last night in his memory. It was so much fun watching Mel when he was young and pretty, lol, but I think my favorite movie of his was Superman. I really enjoyed that when it came out.

    RIP Mr. Donner.

Don Everly, one of the Everly Brothers, died at age 84. Phil passed away maybe 7 years ago.

Only one of the initial Rock and Roll Hall of famer inductees is left, Jerry Lee Lewis. Go figure. He would have been the one most would have bet on not making it out of the 50's.

Also Tom T. Hall, the great country story teller. If you like the genre of 70s and 80s county, he was a legend.
