Yes, I'm past that point in the books now too and was amazed at how differently it played out on TV. They probably didn't want to take anything away from the impact of Tyrion killing Tywin and Shae.

It was mentioned somewhere that HBO slipped up on one of their promo pages and listed the return date as 6/25. That date has since been pulled. But it seems right. Then it would end in early August. Last I heard they were still doing filming in Iceland.

I read yesterday that several of the cast have posted that filming just finished up. Now for the wait...

It feels like forever between seasons this time. On a normal year we'd still have to wait until April, but I think it's the psychological aspect of knowing we won't get the show to late June now. Also they ended Season 6 on such a high note with Jon named King, Cersei becoming Queen, Dany on her way, the expected Jon/Targaryen reveal and Walder Frey finally getting what he deserved.

I was counting on a June return. That was the original buzz. Backing it up now until July is excrutiating. I'm guessing it's more a matter of timing. They want to run the 7 episodes consecutively. HBO often doesn't run their shows on holidays and this jumps the start date after the 4th of July.

They've had an idea now for a couple of years on how they're going to end the show, mapping it right down to the number of episodes in the final two seasons. So they definitely have it planned out well which makes me optimistic for the conclusion of the series.

I am super dope excited for Season 7.

What does "super dope" mean? Who knows? I just want this show back on my television, tablet, laptop or phone.

The wait this time around has been excruciating. We usually have Game of Thrones return just after TWD is over. Now instead of April we have to wait until the middle of July.

One good thing that I heard recently is that even though we're only getting 7 episodes this season each one is going to be about 20 minutes longer, so it's almost a full 10 episode season of content.

I read somewhere that one of the reasons they have to do a shorter season is because they are running out of source material from the books that George RR Martin has already written. The producers of the show said that among all of the side stories and plots, there's a central story and they want that story to come to fruition.

I'm not sure if that's just an excuse or not, but I'm excited to see what the next two seasons have in store.

They also cited increased production costs as a factor. Well duh! When you have a cast of 127 people and 36 of them make a million dollars an episode, those costs add up. lol

Of course I'm exaggerating a bit with those numbers, but I'm pretty sure that all of the actors that play the Lannisters make over $1 per episode. Same with the actors who play Jon Snow and the Targaryan gal. Then you have at least 15 supporting characters who's salaries have to be fairly sizable, the minor characters and guest characters, the regular non-speaking role characters, the crew, etc. The costs have to be insane.
