9.5 for me. Only gripe was it was a LITTLE slow at times, but very riveting. Especially the trip through the museum.

I squee'd when Zeke asked Carol to marry him. I am loving their heightened relationship.

SO NICE to hear Daryl speak clear and coherently. And have something to say. He really doesn't like long hair dude. I wonder what the backstory there is.

The Gregory death was so satisfying. He was such a weasel.

901 has 94% so far on rotten tomatoes, based on 17 reviews. And Season 9 as a whole [some reviewers watched up through 903] has a 100% fresh rating based on nine reviews.

It was funny, I hated Gregory, and I was rooting for Maggie to kill him, but I thought she'd just stab him, one on one as part of the fight.

I did not like the hanging. That seemed wrong, somehow.

The writing has gotten hokey. That whole scene with the glass floor was just completely ridiculous. Going to the museum for the seed stock was a pretty cool idea. The acting (to me) just isn't believable most of the time. Time to take this thing out behind the barn and put it out of its misery

Great episode. Only nit i have is when Ken died. They all scream run, the walkers are coming. But when Ken does get bit, they all run back and are able to kill all the walkers with no problem. Seemed like they should have just done that in the first place.

Any farmer would already be saving seeds for next year's planting, so I was thinking Hilltop would already have had enough seed to share with Sanctuary. My dad, raised in the Great Depression, even saved seeds from his tomatoes every year, even though it is simple to go buy new plants every year. But if these museum seeds are from particularly hardy old varieties of plants, yes, that would be very helpful for Sanctuary.

I'm at about a 7ish. I love TWD, and it's been a rough couple of years but I was a tad disappointed with the premier last night. I know it's a tv show and not everything has to make sense but I like it when it does. I kind of posted this somewhere else but everyone seems to be posting their reviews here so here goes. DISCLAIMER: I love TWD and did not hate last night's show as it might sound.

    1) Museum: So they had to go to a museum to get seeds and farm equipment? The hilltop, kingdom and alexandria who all have crops and or gardens, should have been able to supply seeds from their harvest for Sanctuary. Are there no farms in the rural area they are in that might have farming equipment? Glass floor was ridiculous, that would be major safety glass that would be able to withstand a substantial amount of weight, so that was completely unbelievable but good drama. Safety glass doesn't crack that way either. The "election" conversion (short but there) was irritating, please leave the current social political talk in the real world out. It was obvious what they were hinting at, plus WHY was there an election, Maggie had already taken over leadership of the Hilltop...stupid. Also the wagon down the stairs? Uh, loading docks folk, loading dock. I did like the two walkers from the museum, the one climbing up from behind the counter reminded of Evil Dead and the one under the blanket with Siddiq was cool.

    2) Ken's Death: Ok, so yes it's been a time jump and these folks all know each other but WE the audience does not. The whole thing was just odd all this emotion and focus on this guy Ken that we don't know...ok, yes I know it plays into the angry parents that plays into Gregory's failed hit on Maggie. At the time of the scene though I was like uh what? The action and the scene was done well except for the horses can't pull the cart through the mud...uh that wasn't that much mud...that was stupid.

    3) I probably missed it and need to go rewatch it but what was Daryl's reasoning about not wanting to be at the Sanctuary anymore? I'd think he would have worked out those demons 18 months later already plus now that we saw the sign of "Saviors Save Us", you'd think he'd want to stay and kick ass. Also the guy who told to go clean up with the how response...uh really? We still have these problems 18 months later? I did giggle when Rick arrived and one of the Saviors said "look that's Rick Grimes, the man who ended the war."...I was waiting for the 3 finger salute and Catniss Eberdeen to jump out. The crops thing again....uh since the Sanctuary is a factory, why can't they just make bullets and tools with their machinery and trade it for food. Everyone wins. I still don't understand where they are going to plow fields.

    4) Darryl/Maggie/Rick tension....no please. I understand the hatred for Negan and blah blah blah but it's been 18 months ffs....really still this much resentment festering? I get it still lingering but this was if we picked up right after last season ended and it's not.

    5) Funeral: Major eye roll....the singing, please no male version of Beth. I immediately groaned when that happened. The parents reaction was odd to me or well the mothers. I understand grieving for the death of your son but in the world they live in, it's expected if you go outside of your compound, you might not come back, it's a dangerous world. And her saying to Maggie about her child being fatherless was way below the belt....that was not Maggie's fault. If she hadn't been grieving for the loss of her son, I personally would have decked her. The whole scene was odd.

    6) Hit on Maggie: Ok, she is a major character and a very strong character. Gregory was an idiot but not entirely stupid either. So just on a whim let's send this old guy to go and try to kill Maggie. No real planning or anything...dumb. that would have been a good storyline, the planning out of it and it failing. seemed rushed.

    7) Gregory: Yippeee, the idiot is dead. Though the way he died was weird. That was so out of character and strange to me. Didn't we end the last season with wanting to build a better world, a kinder more peaceful place....does hanging someone (ok ok he tried to kill maggie) seem like that kind of world? Uh no and it's going to cause some major repercussions I think. The cast kept saying it feels like a western...uh yeah I get that now...LOL. I don't know seems it went against the whole "let's come together and make a kinder better world"...uh NOT.

I know it sounds like I hated it but these are things that I noticed or thought as I watched the show. I did enjoy it being more character driven and some real conversations but let's keep everything making sense at least.

Yes, that did seem unreasonable. As you said, it was understandable to advance the plot, but death is ever-present and you have to let your kids out into the scary world sometime.

I can't see how they could use a Loading Dock really they are usuall on the grond level and there are elevators running to them.
If they couldn't get the implements down the stairs cleanly they would have no chance with a dead elevator?

I can only give it 5

I thought the whole glass floor part was as stupid and contrived as anything on Fear has been lately.

I thought it may just be me, since I have not watched from the beginning and don't have a real bond for the characters, in this show or in shows in general. I was watching with my wife, who has watched from the beginning. She doesn't read any boards or follow any outside sites. She made a couple of comments as we were watching. As it ended, she said, "I wonder if everyone is as disappointed as I am?"

    That about sums it up.

I really enjoyed this episode and I feel that it set up a number of interesting story lines.

The biggest, and I know this is a touchy subject for some people, but I really like that they are going to play around with the idea of Rick being similar to Negan. They obviously touched on this over the past 2 seasons, but now we will see it from a different angle. I've always believed that this show is an allegory of early America. Now we are seeing this idea in full. Smaller colonies working together start to establish rules that benefits the collective over the individual. Of course until people start actually voting, it will always come down to one person's decision. So watching this play out is going to be fun.

Maggie putting her settlement before others, Rick wanting the stronger to help the weaker. It's almost democracy vs socialism. Rick wants those with more to give to those with less, Maggie, the elected leader, wants the weaker to earn from the stronger. It helps show Rick is closer to Negan than we see on the surface.

With Maggie an elected leader, does that give her the right to simply made decisions for everybody? Rick has been making decisions for everybody and he rose to a leadership position simply by making decisions when nobody else would. From taking control of the group in s2, banishing Carol, taking charge in Alexandria, and sparing Negan. These are decisions Rick made on his own.

The Saviors are in an interesting position. They were living the good life because other communities were giving them supplies because they were being forced to. Now they are surviving because other communities are giving them supplies because Rick wants them to. It sort of puts Rick in the same position as Negan and I think that's where the biggest issue is going to arise between Rick and Daryl. Rick doesn't want to be "the great Rick Grimes" but because he is, some of the Saviors almost look at him the same way they looked at Negan.

There are so many parallels at play here yet so many directly opposing philosophies. This should be a really fun season.

    You make some interesting observations!

    Pssst.....what do you rate it?

Double psst....did I floor you with my quasi support of Daryl in earlier posts? When I was typing it I thought "I am going to cause Sebrebc to have a heart attack"

LOL Yes, I was taken aback. I could actually feel you gritting your teeth as you typed it.

I rated it a 9, but not because of the episode itself....more for what the episode set up. I don't think there has been a single season premiere that set up so many story lines in the past.

I'm actually curious to see not only how these story lines play out, but how they are effected by a certain character(s) leaving. I feel that some of these story lines will need to be closed fairly quickly. With the fallout going on after the fact. This season is going to be so much fun.

The episode is in general the hit that the positive early reviews predicted. It is up to 95% now on rotten tomatoes based on 19 reviews and has an average user score of 8.2 out of 10 on imdb, based on about 1200 reviews so far.

First - Welcome to the Forum. Second.... i guess ill say goodbye now too since it disappointed you so much. I mean i MAY agree with you to a point....the ridiculousness of the show is almost akin to joining a fan forum to express how much of a fan you no longer are.

I think I read somewhere (probably in one of the reviews of the first three episodes) that episodes one and two are really good episodes and much like @Sebrebc said they are laying the groundwork for what is to come. The part that struck me was that it is the third episode that is going to be the one we are all going to talk about, the best of three

    I gave it a 9.2635

9 Because it was such an improvement over last season.

The other .2635 is my business.

You cant do that. It's not fair and im sure it breaks some sort of Freedom of Information act. You need to explain that .2635. In detail.

Okay fine! I would have given it a perfect 10 but I deducted 0.5 points because I am still waiting to see Maggie's boobs. It's been 7 seasons and I've sent countless letters, but they still ignore me.

Where was I? Oh yeah. 9.5 rating but I had to shave off an extra .237 because I was annoyed by the fact that Carol and Daryl are just friends. Shouldn't they be doing it by now, or shouldn't Daryl tell her he's gay?!?!?

The other 0.005 was a rounding error on my part. Ooops!
