Some of those are zombie comedies, but I like that sort of thing if it's done well.

 

World War Z is a great movie

 

Dawn of the dead 2004 is by far the best zombie film I've seem.

 

These zombie movies are probably still on Netflix....
1. Mutants....It's a rage virus, kinda like 28 Days Later.
2. Rammrock...Berlin Underground....Very good. You just got to get past the captions.
3. State of Emergency....it had it's moments.
4. Pontypol...It was ok.
5. The Dead...I doubt it's on Netflix byut it's better than every new Romero film.

None of these are comedys or over the top machete/karate kicking type zombie movies. I would say they are serious and more realistic if a real outbreak broke out. None are perfect but worth watching while waiting for The Walking Dead.

just watched The Dead 2 India, awesome, just as good if not better than the first one
the sense of dread is still there as they shuffle closer, again the filmmaking, photography, locations are stunning
funny thing is it came out in 2013 and I only found out it existed 3 days ago lol

Dead Season (from 2011) This was on SyFy tonight, had seen it before and it's not too bad. Watchable if you need a zombie fix. lol

 

- Shaun of the Dead: Probably the best comedic zombie film ever made. I love the British humor, which is usually intelligent and often subtle. You either get the joke or you don't. No over the top visuals or antics as if to shout "Hey! This is supposed to be funny!"
- 28 Days: A strong, gritty plot. No campiness whatsoever.
- Dawn of the Dead: A good, fun zombie film. A bit of an adventurous romp, I'd call it.
- Zombieland: A very good, perhaps even excellent, zombie film. Bill Murray's brief cameo alone may be reason enough to watch!

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'll think of more later. I've seen so many over the years.

 

Zombieland if you want a more chill experience, 28 Days later (and the sequel 28 Weeks Later) if you want a more grotesque and intense viewing.

[Rec] 2007. My absolute favorite zombie movie. I can watch it over and over again and still can't help but jump and scream at certain scenes.

 

Rec technically wasn't a zombie movie. They were demons that possessed human bodies, which is explained throughout the film. The American remake makes it out to be an infectious disease or virus. I'd still count it as a zombie movie, but they're not actually zombies.

 

It also depends what kind of zombie movies you prefer. Comedy/Zombie films, really gruesome ones or just the plain survival horror types?

 

Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. Like Warm Bodies also.

 

The Battery is one of my favorite Zombie movies so far. There were moments of humor but these were not comedic to my mind, but harsh, bare moments of human frailty and emotion.

The undead were extremely well done in appearance and physical movement. This is super important important for me to enjoy a zombie movie. I instantly lose interest in glowing green irises and exaggerated monster effects. In The Battery they looked like dead bodies in realistic degrees of decay.

It was a great movie and authentic in the character and relational development of the two guys who have found themselves in conflict and dependence on one another.

 

Plain horror ones are for me. I kind of like to keep it a bit old school and classic.

 

Train to Busan and The Girl with all the Gifts were both fantastic movies in the genre.
