I am now not too sure that Connie and Virgil went to that house by chance.
One little detail we have not discussed:- At the crossroad, Connie wanted to go one way and Virgil wanted to go the other way as he saw a mailbox standing up, thus indicating that a nearby house which might provide some shelter.
Now, a little later (perhaps a few hours?), when Kelly+gang came to the same crossroad, that mailbox was lying on the ground. Did it fall on its own? Did someone put it down?

Yes, Connie and Virgil were running away from walkers. But could there be someone/something else? If Connie has not slept for 2 days (?), then they must be on the run for a couple days. It seems unlikely they were 'chased' by so many walkers around for 2 days and then it just happened randomly they went into the den of the Crawlers?

For a group that needed to eat the people who took shelter in their house, they sure as hell made it difficult for Virgil and Connie to get in. Why not leave the door unlocked?

The mailbox could have been a red herring. While yes, Virgil saw it as meaning there was a possible safe shelter nearby, it seems that Kelly and co. found their way to the house even without the mailbox standing. No one was “herding” them towards it.

Conflicting messages. On the one hand the writers want us to believe that these crawlers (?) were so intelligent that they chased V&C towards the house setting a trap but on the other hand made them so feral as to belie their ability to plan anything as complicated as that. Who knows.

To resolve the conflict, one possible theory is:- these Crawlers are not alone. They are sheep herded by their Shepherds. The locked door is not meant to keep people getting in but to prevent the sheep going out. As already pointed out, keeping 5 or 6 such Crawlers need a lot of food and it is unrealistic to have random people going into the house. The Shepherds lure people to the house?

The Crawlers seem to have low intelligence. Yet, the house seems to have some unusual construction, eg the sliding door that separated Connie from Virgil, the tunnel system that the Crawlers use to move around.

Maybe the show writers just want to leave this to the imagination of us viewers.

That’s an interesting theory however I really hope that’s not the case because that means there are still other weirdos in the general vicinity. Wandering displaced Whisperers are all I can handle right now, lol. I’m not sure where Pope’s people are exactly in relation to everyone but I feel they have gravitated to the area of Meridian which is possibly a ways north of ASZ?

As far as the unusual construction of the house goes, could it be that the original owners (the house looks very old) were part of the Underground Railroad safe house system? Hidden, secret areas might have been built in to keep runaway slaves safely out of sight. Connie entered the tunnel system after removing a grate. They could also have been used later as an easy way for maintenance workers to access certain areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach without pulling down plaster walls.
    Just a thought.

Yeah, that's a mess. We shouldn't have to go to writing our own explanation for why something happened on screen. The audience wasn't presented with any plausible reason why Connie and Virgil were "herded" to that house. There wasn't even scant evidence. As you said in another post, they sure as hell made it difficult to get in there for needing to eat people to survive. So I'd prefer to just chalk it up to Virgil misspeaking in the heat of the moment of being attacked in the house, rather than some deus ex machina.

The episode seemed out of place in the TWD series.
Have to admit tho I did jump when the glass jar fell off the shelf and broke.

Yeah it was out of place, but they made it extremely scary at least with the way it was filmed. If someone other than Nicotero had directed that one it could've been a mess.

It was good to have the much more realistic and very human other storyline to go with the horror, Daryl outsmarting the Reapers.

I thought Virgil and Connie made a nice couple.

Not to crazy over the smeagols mixed in with zombies though. . .ah. . No. . Went together for me like tuna fish and ice cream.

Yes, all rather weird. But still, despite all the nonsense, it was a very exciting episode. I agree that Connie and Virgil were an interesting pairing in Virgil’s redemption story, and of course whoever is going to be put together with Connie in a scene, they will need to up their game / both the character and the actor. But as a couple… well I’m still hoping that Connie and Daryl will have their chance to explore whatever was brewing between them pre-cave-collapse.

Lauren Ridloff who plays Connie was on Talking Dead. There was a viewer's question about Connie/Virgil and she quickly shot that down. She had a "no way" sort of attitude. So yeah, I think they're going to explore the whole Daryl and Connie thing next.

    I give this ep a solid 9.
The 'crawlers' in the house reminded me of that family of 13 kids that were kept in chains by their lunatic parents. This would explain the feral behavior because they were never socialised or taught how to fend for themselves.
it was like watching a mini horror movie. I'm happy that Connie is reunited with Kelly. The actress who plays Connie was outstanding. Having the scenes from her POV in silence was very effective and chilling. This ep reminded me why I have stuck with the show since the first episode.
The line about being "herded" into the house was a bit jarring esp as the crawlers didn't look like they ever left the house and there was no indication of anyone living in the house who could herd survivors/preventing walkers from getting in there. However, someone else must've built the booby traps in the house.

May be these crawlers were human/zombie hybrids? Once you get into X-Files territory (and yes it did feel like an X-files episode) anything is possible.

Good episode but some of it didn't make sense at all.
