Comparing the rate of decay to Calif, yes. Have similar leftist policies enacted at the Federal level affected the whole country? Also yes.

I have a story about a couple from Venezuela. ( a horrible place to live).
“Alex & Ana” came here illegally in 2015. Once here, they applied for the green card and got it.
They both work for the same cleaning company. They pay taxes.
During the last 4 years, they had to keep a low profile, as they were afraid of being deported.
(A co-worker had been sent back to Cuba, even though she had been here since 2006).

I met them last year. Both are about my age, and the sweetest couple I have met.
Alex is working a double shift, 6 days a week, to help keep the building sanitized from covid. Ana makes sure the bathrooms & offices are kept clean.
Ana still can not speak English, but Alex knows enough to make conversation. And when he can’t explain, he uses his translation app.

This couple are not drug dealers, rapists, murderers. They are not living on welfare or taking away jobs from others. They are not involved in human trafficking.
They are hard working people who just want to live a better life here in America.
I let their supervisor know that if they need a reference next year, I will be happy to vouch for them, when they apply to become legal citizens.

The point is, not all immigrants are bad.

I'm sure they are wonderful people.

On the jobs front though, are you saying their jobs are unnecessary? IOW, if they weren't here NO ONE would be doing what they are doing? I doubt that. The work they are doing would still need to be done, and their boss would have to hire *someone* to do that work, and if there were no illegal aliens, that work would be done by a U.S. citizen.

So, "yes", they are taking jobs away from Americans. And when they have children and those children get accepted to college and get scholarships because of their "disadvantaged background"? They are taking those scholarships away from some poor kid in the Appalachians who needs it just as badly.

    That is not correct.
The only people who apply to clean toilets for this company, are the Hispanics. In fact, the owner of the company is Puerto Rican, who has hired white people, but they never seem to last.

And as far as scholarships go, I’m pretty sure companies give them to people who work hard at their schooling.
My daughter has gotten a good share of scholarships. And has been denied others.
Her race had nothing to do with it.

I can attest to that, at least from my own experience. Back when I was in college I answered an ad to be a hotel maid during one summer break to earn extra money. My god, I’m not sure I even lasted a month. People are pigs. The porn I’d have to toss from some rooms that had been left behind, and some of those bathrooms were indescribably filthy. I couldn’t stand it and I went into it with a good attitude planning to work at it all summer. I think I would have killed my self if I had to do that to make a living.

Fortunately, I had a friend who got me a part time office job filing but I salute all those who work to clean up the messes of complete strangers. I can imagine those jobs are filled by people who have no other resources which shouldn’t be an option for any American citizen who has the opportunity to take school seriously and isn’t that the plan for immigrants as well? They may have to do dirty work but the hope is that the next generation will have better opportunities.

The company that cleans the building I work in will hire anyone willing to work. Anita was the only white person to last the longest. One & a half months.
We are responsible to clean the cafeteria area, but the cleaning crew is responsible for the dining area. I’ll never forget the day she quit. She had a total meltdown.
She started screaming in the dining that she didn’t want to clean up after a bunch of slobs. (All she had to do was wash the tables, as Jose was emptying the trash bins). That she was better than that. She then threw her bucket of water/sanitizer at the big screen tv. Security had to come and escort her out.
I haven’t seen another white person work for them since.

You know thats not what I asked. Populous states have higher crime, homeless, dirtiness, etc. Every state has seen an increase over the last 30 years. Even Red ones. You can’t blame leftists when a Republican President had a Republican congress for the last 4 years.

Lol. I worked sanitation at a zoo for 4 years. People are pigs when they don’t have to clean up their own mess. We had people of all races working there. While everyone complained, the Hispanics and Pilipinos seemed to work hardest and longest before getting fed up. None of them were illegal, so they didn’t put up with more because they had to. Its just culturally, they didn’t see the work as demeaning. Just work.

I wonder if some cultures already think “Americans” are dirty people so cleaning up after their messes is expected. No honest work is demeaning in and of itself. What makes it so, IMO, is that people have no regard for those who work to make and keep public spaces presentable for all those who use them. It’s disrespectful to make someone’s job more difficult than it needs to be. How hard is it to throw your garbage inside the receptacle or flush the toilet or not pee on the seat or floor just for starters?
It gets to the point sometimes where you can just take so much and then you’re done.

I answered to the point. I'm sure you were itching to say that every state has increased crime since their population is up - which is true, but misses the point. The point is that California is *worse* than most.

And I most certainly CAN blame leftist policies as they are what are driving the decay at the state level, which is as blue as blue can be. I mean seriously, when you have a state that says they aren't going to prosecute shoplifters (prop 47) one shouldn't be surprised that petty crime goes up. Now the City by the Bay has the HIGHEST rate of theft in the country! It used to be a garden.

I've got a practical example of how the state laws affect the ''quality of life" in a state. Last week I was in Calif. and a friend of mine related how she was at Walmart when a woman pushing a couple of full carts in the parking lot ran into her car with one when she was was still in it. it scratched off a chunk of paint and my friend asked her for her ID so she could give it to her insurance company. The woman refused at which point my friend called the police, who came quickly. The woman also refused to give the *police* her ID, and they said that since she hit my friends car with a shopping cart instead of her vehicle it was a civil case and not a potentially criminal one and under state law they couldn't force her to give her ID. The woman then got in her car and drove away, leaving my friend to deal with it on her own. Does that sound like a good situation for you? Why call the police if they can't do anything for you? Nope, not a place I'd want to live anymore, and that's *definitely* the State's left-wing policies' fault, not the fault of a right wing national administration.

That’s more of a story about lazy policing rather than “blue” politics. Mr. Frisky and I were in an automobile accident back in September. We were at an intersection and I was making a left turn when out of nowhere, a speeding teen came up behind me, crossed over a solid line in the road to pass me on my left and T-boned us. Fortunately no one was seriously injured, in fact my father didn’t have a scratch on him but the car was totaled. The police who sped to the scene along with fire, refused to issue that kid a ticket. If I had been the one causing the accident I’m sure I would have been ticketed at the very least. MM thinks his dad, who also came to the scene, knew someone on the force since they made all sorts of excuses for him, like he was “confused” about the lines on the road. Why the hell did he even have a license then, and just saying, this happened in a “conservative” suburb. Lazy cops. What good were they?

Yeah, if he found the lines of the road "confusing", he shouldn't be driving! Driving's not rocket science.

I suppose one could also point out how they had witnessed a property crime in some other city so the fact that San Francisco's crime rate has skyrocketed after the passage of prop 47 is irrelevant, but that doesn't make it so.

For what it's worth, my friend said the police officer was actually very nice, but with the other woman being obstinate and refusing to comply, he said he didn't have any way to force her to provide ID in this situation. I guess what bothers me about this incident is the lack of compassion and caring in general. First you don't watch or care where your cart is, and when it hits someone else's car you refuse to own your mistake and leave the repair bill to your "victim" when she saw what you did and she's right there in front of you. What a sad excuse of a woman.

Perhaps the two events, the passing of prop 47 and the rise in property crimes is coincidental rather than causative.

I agree that the one woman was being a jerk. I hope the woman whose car was damaged got the offender’s license plate number at least so she could pursue the matter with her lawyer or maybe small claims court. Some pics would have been helpful too. I wasn’t happy with what happened to me but I got an insurance settlement.

To some degree you're right. I'm sure if theft clogging the courts wasn't an issue already they wouldn't have made it legal to steal. That doesn't mean that making stealing risk free didn't exacerbate the problem, though.

Yeah, she took a picture of both her and her plate. But, how do you prove she was driving if she refuses to answer the door? What if it wasn't even her car? Will whoever she borrowed the car from be willing to finger her for you? Hardly. Should you hire a private investigator to try and track her down for such a minor thing? Nah, the woman is going to walk away without accountability (in this life).

I'm sure my friend's insurance will cover it, but after paying the deductible and being that much closer to having a rate increase, is it worth reporting it?

It's just a callous and mean thing to do to someone.

I agree that getting your car hit by a shopping cart sucks but. It isn’t a moving violation and the damage is less than the threshold for prosecution. I think most states would have similar laws. Its not hit and run and if it wasn’t intentional, then its not vandalism.

Not prosecuting petty theft sends the wrong message but spending more on prosecution than the amount you can recover is also a no win situation. California may be worst in your opinion but it also had a huge growth. My point is population growth equals crime growth. Every state has had both. Higher population density equals higher crime. Rural states have always derided urban states crime rates. Nothing new.

Don't you live in Calif? You really don't think things are noticeably worse now than they were? I do. I remember what it was like and I know what it's like now, and it's worse now, increased population or no. Also, the rate of growth in CA has tapered off a lot compared to the 80's, in fact there's a net *outflow* of people from the state. That kind of goes against this huge, increasing, teeming mass of people entering the state yearning to be free (and committing crimes). Citizens are LEAVING the state as the crime rate increases.

The border crisis is worsening. Thanks a lot Biden, Harris, and Dems.
AND it turns out that Muslim terrorists really ARE trying to sneak across the border, regardless of the propaganda to the contrary.

"Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is on pace to have encountered more than 171,000 migrants in March alone, two sources familiar with internal CBP data told Fox News -- a dramatic increase over last year’s numbers and the latest sign that the crisis at the southern border is not subsiding. The number, based on preliminary data and not yet finalized, would mark a sharp increase in numbers from the already-high 100,441 migrants encountered in February – and the roughly 34,000 migrants encountered in March of last year."

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bi...s-and-immigration-underwater-by-double-digits

    "
Democrats who downplayed the possibility of individuals on the FBI's Terrorism Watch List coming across the border illegally have been silent about Border Patrol agents capturing suspected terrorists at the southern border.

On Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that Border Patrol agents had apprehended a Yemeni man at the southern border whose name was on the FBI's Terrorism Watch List. This is the second Border Patrol arrest of a Yemini national with their name on the Terrorism Watch List in two months.

The arrest happened on March 30 two miles from the southern border in the El Centro Sector of the border, near Calexico, California. The apprehended suspect was also on the no-fly list."

It is worse but its not the crime ridden, dirty, homeless haven you make it out to be. Big cities are worse. Most cities have had a slight uptick. People are leaving because housing is just nuts and salaries aren’t matching. No, tomato farmers were never going to afford 600,000 single family homes in a halfway decent neighborhood. We have a lot of big cities. Those cities have had big upticks. But its not crazy.

On BART the police aren't supposed to interfere with the rights of addicts to shoot up in public leading to:

    Addicts in BART terminals.

The police in L.A. have been told not to remove the homeless from the streets, leading to:

Homeless permanently living on the streets.

    Homeless living in the parks

How is this NOT significantly worse than what it used to be?

I personally wouldn't feel safe walking through either one of these areas, even during daytime. What happened to MY right to use public transit or walk down a city street or visit a public park (that my taxes pay for)?
