I agree with you about Haunted, I picked it up just for the title, but had no idea that it was not about ghosts! I read it about 4 or 5 years ago and it pretty
much gave me nightmares. I have never read anything l like it before or since, and I read a lot of zombie/gore stories. I 'm still not ready to go back to it.
I read that Chuck Palahniuk has had people pass out at public readings of "Haunted", and I believe it. I would recommend it to anyone who loves horror,
    just remember, you've been warned!

My favorite horror-ish book is "Swan Song" by Robert R. McCammon which is sorta like "The Stand" by S. King. Post-apocalyptic battle of good vs evil. It's really a great book!
I read an earlier post about noone liking "Cell" by King. I loved "Cell" and it had one of the most shocking and heartbreaking twists involving a main character that I've read (at least it impacted me that way.....I had to re-read the page 5 or 6 times to make sure it really happened! lol)

Weave World, Clive Barker. Not really horror but a great book.

Ghost Story, Peter Straub. A great ghost story it is too.

The Witching Hour, Anne Rice. Again not really scary but a great story.

    Cozy Chilling Bedtime Stories

Wanna recommend u all one of my favourites, yet not so much well known. U can find buch of stories which will grab u right into the story, and u won't be able to stop reading nor to move out of the bed. Pretty much scary, as well as a little bit erotic, that's what everyone loves, isn't it? :)) Oh well, the book is Cozy Chilling Bedtime Stories by Peter Gibey.

Check out Richard Matheson's I Am Legend-- it is ten times better than the movie.

Salem's Lot by Stephen King is my favorite SK book. Also, The Shining is excellent. I like the earlier King better.
    Ghost Story by Peter Straub
Baal and They Thirst by Robert R. McCammon
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
The Book of Common Dread and its sequel, The Blood of the Covenant by Brent Monahan
    The Rising by Brian Keene
    Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin
The Song of Kali and Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons
Haven by Graham Diamond -- not to be confused with the TV series.
    The Wolfen - Whitley Streiber

These are all scary, creepy books.

There is a lot of horror books that I loved to read but the best one I think was the Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. First time in my life, I hated my imagination.

Read all of these except for Stinger. What's it about? So glad to hear the shout out for Carrion Comfort. That book is in my top 5 of all time.

Alien bounty hunter lands in Texas, chasing another alien who enters the mind of a little girl. Chaos ensues. It's wicked good. Oddly enough I think Stephen King stole a little from this book when he wrote 'Under the Dome'.

I loved Carrion Comfort, it was so much fun. Definitely in my top 10.

Let the right one in. It's more dark and funked up than scary though.

Exactly! I read the first 3 books a couple of years ago and all 3 of them were just awesome! I didn't have the chance to read the rest of the series, did you read them? I'm planing to read them and I think they are worth it.

Carrion Comfort is terrific. I also really like Dark Advent by Brian Hodge. Anybody else read it?
