Lure them into a narrow pass and then stab them in the head from above with a spike on a spear type weapon. This would not be time efficient but it would be quiet and wouldn't waste resources. I always wondered why they didn't clear more zoms from around the prison until someone pointed out that they serve as a deterrent to the living approaching the prison.

Dynamite sounds like it would make zombies that are missing and arm or a leg. But how do you know it would damage the brain?

Nukes might make radio-activity zombies. But same thing, how can we be sure the brain would be damaged?

Lure them into a slaughterhouse(fully operational) use the cattle chutes and humane destruction methods available.

Fun kill
Pack meat around an M80(or larger) wait for zed to consume and remote detonate.

 

Ah yes, someone needs to get hold on one of those captive bolt pistols (used to kill/stun cattle for slaughter) to see whether it's effective on walkers.

Another downside= nearby zombies are not killed by the blast and drawn by the noise. This creates a herd that hinders your ability to get the hell out of there lol

I was thinking about ways to clear a city/town/other large area.

First you need a hole about twice as large as the mass of zombies you want to kill. A large sinkhole or other blind hole would be perfect. It's important that this have no egress.

Ideally, you'd use a helicopter. Fly low over the area, broadcasting a message that's basically: "Humans, please stay inside. This is a zombie-clearing operation." This is really important because survivors would be likely to see the chopper as rescue and come out, which would distract the herd.

Zombies hear the noise and follow the chopper. Fly slowly to the hole so that the slower zombies can keep up. Fly over the hole and the walkers fall in.

But it isn't likely you'd have a chopper, or, more importantly, a chopper pilot. You could do the same thing with a ground vehicle, but you'd have to deploy a bridge that you blew from the other side or something similar.

You'd still have to go through the city and clear it room by room, since there could be zombies that didn't get the memo, couldn't move (stuck in a closet or something). But that would get the mass of them.

Before the S2 finale I thought that you'd have to dangle some bait (ex. a rooster) to keep the herd interested, but the movement of the copter seems to be enough.

I would never try to burn walkers in an uncontrolled area (i.e. not in a big pit). You need to focus a lot of heat to destroy the brain, and it would be all too easy for semi-burned zeds to walk or crawl away.
