Ok, I've stepped back a bit to put this in perspective. 109 comics have gone by. Carl has done 1 or 2 things that most of you will count as useful. That does not make him useful overall. AGAIN, I will not deny that the kid has something special but as of right now I would NOT consider him a contributing member to the group. TV Carl has done a lot more in one season than comic Carl has over the entire series. Comic Carl's saving grace is that he didn't disappear every 5 seconds.

 

He also did something Rick and others couldn't or wouldn't do, he found out where Negan's stronghold was, got the layout of it, killed a bunch of Negan's men and somehow came out unscathed.

 

Again, very much not trying to be argumentative. Just furthering the discussion. Rick and Jesus were on their way to Negan's "hideout" and Carl only left in one piece because of Negan's "virtue"..?? If Carl got in and out unnoticed and took out a ton of Negan's people then year...kudos. But the only reason he walked was because Negan has some messed up sense of humor.

 

But you can't deny that he did something that was useful. He took out some of Negan's muscle and knows the layout of Negan's hideout. Jesus got there but he didn't know the inside of the place. Carl only got out due to Negan's "kindness" but you can't deny that he manned up and made something happen.

 

I'm not trying to be argumentative either. Just a good discussion Something that seems to be lacking at times on this board with all the trolls.

 

Lets not forget that Carl killed Shane, ensuring he never became the problem he did on the show.

Killing Ben probably saved other group members lives, because no one else was gonna do it, and he'd have killed someone else again most likely.

Saving Rick's life after the prison was huge for everybody.

But Carl's biggest contribution to the group? He is Rick's primary motivation to keep going, and to stay in a group. And Rick's bravery and leadership has probably saved the life of just about every member of the group (past and present) at least once. Without Carl, there'd be no Rick. And without Rick, most of them would be dead.

 

Carl needs to get him some. Hell, I need to get me some, too.

Same! He's great in the comics, the kid playing him kinds bugs me on the show a little bit. But he's growing on me a little.

My favorite line (from Negan to Carl) "Kid, I'm not going to lie to you--you scare the ****ing shit out of me" You know Negan ain't lying about that. Carl is a one-eyed, bad-ass mother-****er

 

I thought he would have hardened into more of a bad-ass over 2 years, instead he looks like a dorky hipster with them glasses not too happy cause he is one of my favourite chars.

 

He's just in peace mode right now. Soon some bad shit will happen and the hat and gun will come back and hopefully the glasses will never be seen again.

 

I love both ComicCarl and ShowCarl. He redefines the term "precocious." Not only is he the most badass kid we've seen in the show/comics (sure, we haven't seen *that* many kids -- but still), I think he out badass-es many of the adults as well.

I've heard by word of mouth that ComicCarl is one of the most hated characters. I don't get it. I don't think I need to either. I'm okay with holding my opinion as is.

I'm so curious to see what kind of person ComicCarl has become in the two years since AOW. There wasn't enough content in Issue 127 to go on (for me anyway).

Except I'm fairly convinced that Skillrex survived the apocalypse, crossed paths with Carl, and gave him a makeover. I've read speculation about what Carl's necklace is made of. Some people are surmising teeth. I say it's made of Smarties. Very hipster.

One of the most hated? No way. It's the complete opposite, he has a huge fan following. At least that's how I've seen it over the years.

Speaking of, Isn't our little Carl just about all grown up into his new personality, Negan ****ing Grimes.
Now just think of it, he has three different women on the line, facial scaring similar to Dwight, Negan's ol' #2, a twisted sense of justice (growing up zombie and killing Ben etc.). Carl also has had alone time with Negan both before and after imprisonment. I'm just saying... It's time to welcome the second coming of Negan in the form of future leader Negan Mother ****ing Grimes

 

In some circles he is known as Carl Poppa in light of his recent music video detailing his views on life in the wake of the zombie apocalypse.
Some might find launching music career after getting your eye shot out a hard call.

In non-Poppa-related news, I think I'd have to rate Carl as my favourite character of the new era bar none. For me, he's like an interesting amalgam of Rick, Negan, and dare I say it, Shane. Looking forward to seeing what takes place in issue 138/139...

 

Kirkman has recently said that Rick could be killed off now because Carl could carry the comic, but I could't disagree more.
Yes, he is a great character, but he's still too immature and not even close to being leadership material.

I sorta wish instead of Carl wanting to be a blacksmith, Rick would've taken him under his wing and taught him how to lead so that when he's gone, Carl can take over the thrown.

 

Carl left went after Lydia
