Carl's Letter To Negan

    Someone could probably come up with a more complete version if they spent enough time pausing and unpausing the scene. Some I could not read because its actually off the screen, some was blocked by my little guide bar that comes up when you pause, and some was too blurry.... but here's as much as I could make out on a single paused screen shot...

    "Negan. This is Carl......I got bit. We didn't even have.....[...]..

    ...doing.....I was just helping someone....[...]

    You might be gone. Maybe my dad ...[....]...he killed you, but I don't think so. I think...[....]

    ...working on a way out. Maybe you got out. Maybe...[....]....

    ..cause and you just want to kill all of us.

    ...I think you have to be who you are. ...I think what you wanted. I wanted to ask you....

    Maybe you'll beat us. If you do, there'll just ...[....]

    ...the way out is working together. Its forgiveness...[....]

    ...you have to be....

    I tried pausing it myself but my screen got top blurry to read the words so I gave up.

    Good work though. Maybe we'll hear the whole thing if Rick ever let's Negan read the letter. Maybe from his jail cell?

    I thought Rick was going to read it to Negan but unfortunately no. I hope we find out its contents. The partial letter makes me more curious now.

    I'm surprised that Carl can actually write and use grammar at all - he's grown up in this world and surely would have had no time for education? I kind of wish the letter was written like this, for example:

    I fink u have to b who u r. ...I fink wot u wonted. I wonted to ask u.

    Ha! I hadn't thought of that. Carl hasn't been in a classroom now since he was what - about 8 or 9?

    I thought he was going to tell Negan more of what it said. Sigh. I guess I will wait.......

    It's a great point. He was 10 the last time he wrote anything. Regardless of how old he is now, 12, 13, 15, whatever. The kid hasn't picked up a pen since he was in school at 10 years old. His penmanship, spelling, and wording should really reflect that.

    Yeah, he should have some delays for sure, although I'm not sure we can say that he hasn't practiced writing since he was 10. There was a 7 month time jump at the prison, and during that time they set up a system of classes for the kids, plus there was a lot of down time there. We never saw Carl in a class, but he may well have practiced writing then.

    Also when they got to ASZ, Mikey told Carl that the kids had classes, split into the older and younger kids. We never saw Carl in a class, but we saw the classroom, when Eugene et al. hid in it during No Way Out. And we saw Carl reading magazines and such on a few occasions.

    Another great point, they did have classes at the prison. I suppose there's no reason not to believe that they did some schooling at Alexandria too, before the other kids all disappeared.
