Meh, it's my fault for picking something else completely mindless on demand to finish first. LOL

I feel better about my memory. I watched the Top Gear clip again, and Richard had duct taped his car. I can see it where he is saying "Brake, Accelerate, Brake, Accelerate" to use up fuel. Must have been just to keep his good air in and the radioactive air out.

Hey, @Stealth, here's another clip so you can see how the show works. They say it was the scariest thing ever. Must have been before Chernobyl. lol

That makes sense now. All I could think was how completely reckless they were to be wasting fuel and running out near Chernobyl. The police that stopped them on the road had to think they were completely insane, swerving all over the place etc. lol

That clip is hilarious. I laughed out loud a number of times. When they looked at the Welcome to Alabama sign with the bullet holes and said, "If they did that to their sign, imagine what they'll do to us" I never expected them to actually be attacked. Too funny that they ended up cleaning the slogans off their vehicles and escaping.

I thought I'd just watch the first episode after dinner last night, but I was hooked straight away and binge watched every episode.

I bawled my eyes out at the pets scenes inside the exclusion zone in episode 4. God that was heartbreaking. :(

Observations of a man who was a young teenager about 50 miles away (in Kiev, Ukraine). He is impressed by the level of accurate detail and adds a few ideas of how more details of their lives were disrupted that would have been fairly easy to include. Long, so I listened in two stretches.

I've been watching a bunch of Youtube videos on Chernobyl since the show ended. It's fascinating to learn about it. The new containment structure they put into place recently was an incredible achievement. They built the thing a short distance from the reactor and then pushed it into place to seal it off. The original sarcophagus was at the end of it's lifespan. The new one is supposed to last 100 years, and they're going to begin to dissassemble parts of the plant.

I saw a TV special on how they built it and rolled it into place. Absolutely amazing.

I wonder what is the point of taking the plant apart. Anywhere they put the scrap will just be another poisoned place? They probably explained that in the special, but it was a long time ago.

I binge watched it yesterday. It was a sad series.

I was also sad about the animals, I would have been like that solider and unable to carry out that task. The puppies, OMG I cried :(

I heard where some of the materials could be broken down and destroyed, but I'm not sure about what the process for doing that is. The main problem of course remains but I guess it has to do with the structure and some of the other contaminated items within the plant.

In retrospect I don't know how necessary all of that was. They didn't kill all the animals and now there are dogs etc living within the exclusion zone. What's interesting too is how wildlife has thrived in the area in recent years. Since animals don't have the same lifespan as people the radioactive elements haven't impacted them as much.

Linda and I were talking about this yesterday. Also the theory that the animals are repopulating because they are not being hunted.

I watched an interview last week featuring an American specialist, Dr Robert Gale, who was invited to the USSR to help treat those suffering from acute radiation. He claims the aftermath wasn't as bad as what the show portrayed.
