Could Sasha have been more effective kamikazing herself, alive, out of the coffin?

I don't think Sasha did it to Kamikazing herself. Negan ordered her to do something to her friends, so she sacraficed herself. She knew when she died before they drove to Alexandria, Negan would use somebody else. Or at least do something else cruel. Untill the cofin opened Negans plan work perfectly. At the moment Sasha was turned and attacked Negan, there was no time for a new stragetic plan.

Agree with Fylimar, Basset and Honda...Sasha was mentally at breaking point after losing Bob, Tyreese and Abraham. Her one wish was to kill Negan - but that plan failed too. I think she was happy to die so Negan couldn't use her in the way he had intended. And her apparent death from suffocation might have been used as "the one who had to die" (unlikely, knowing Negan - but he just might have found it amusing!). Her coming out and attacking Negan being stood just a metre away was pure luck, I think. Glad she did though!

    I kno
That absolutely would have been better, but guess what, Eugene is Neagan, and Eugene isn't on board with helping Sasha stay alive, no, Eugene is on board with keeping his comfy position. Sasha took herself out of the hostile negotiation. She was brave, Eugene is a coward. Having said that, I think that Eugene will end up with Rick's crew again.

She did it so she wouldn't be a bargaining chip. She got to take out a Savior or 2 in the process. Go Sasha! She took it for the team.

AGAIN..Sasha did not have a plan of attack as a walker. Even IF she'd had such a plan (and she didn't) it would have been too unpredictabe. No one knows the time frame of when they will turn once they die. Could be several minutes, could be several hours. It varies from individual to individual.

Sasha simply wanted to make sure that Negan couldn't use her as a bargaining chip against her group. Taking a suicide pill just prior to Negan opening the coffin (if she could even time it properly, she most likely couldn't hear what was going on outside of the coffin itself) would have been lame. She could have called out whatever she liked to Rick after taking the pill, but who would have even believed her? It does take time for a poison to begin to take effect, and Sasha would have had no idea how long it would take for the first symptoms to appear. That would have taken an incredible amount of good luck and timing. Not a viable option at all.

    Sasha did what was right.

Ummm....sounds good but wouldn't have been practical. Eugene might be the MacGyver of the ZA, but I doubt he could have concocted an explosive devise that would have been small enough to be concealed and predictable enough to explode when it was supposed to, all over night.

He may be acting the coward at the moment but he's not stupid. He put some thought into this. Something that would be easy to conceal, that would leave no trace leading back to him, like a weapon or an explosive devise would, but that was effective none the less.

It's evident that he still has feelings for Rick's group. Besides covering his own tracks, a poison pill would do the job as painlessly as possible. Blowing yourself up, while most don't live to tell the tale, seems like it would be excruciating. Eugene didn't want that for Sasha. He couldn't talk her out of her plan, but he did what he could to ease her through it.

    You hit the bullseye.

Oh, and to whomever said that Sasha should've taken the pill right at the end and yelled to Rick is patently ridiculous. Poison takes time, and this particular poison definitively would take 20-30 mins or so, as Eugene said. What can be done in 20-30 minutes with a living Sasha? A lot...

That amount of time is ample for Negan to torture her; for someone who isn't yet dead, and even if he wouldn't use (violent) rape as the means, he'd be able to threaten and/or chop off Sasha's limbs in front of her group, or threaten to Lucille someone unless one of Rick's group inflicts torture on her (e.g. making her friends chop of her limb or person X dies), and so on.

A soon-to-be-dead bargaining chip is still a bargaining chip, and it ain't cyanide so that 20 minutes or more would clearly destroy the purpose of her noble act of suicide: to remove herself as leverage for her family's death and suffering, including psychological. That is why the strategy of being dead was smart and the proposed alternative here is point-blank-pointless and stupid.

Sasha went out a hero and was keen enough to plan it correctly and precisely for her end goal. And for the record, she was even hot as hell as a walker.
