Carl is around 7 here. lol

It's sad to see them reflecting on the future knowing what it entails now.

Guys, sorry that I haven't posted here before. I know I had received a mention. I've been busy these days, but I've made it. Finished one of my favorite volumes... again. So good to be back!

I loved it. Great to see the old crew. I know we have all talked about it for hundreds of times, but I kinda feel sorry for Shane after everything... I actually always did. But it is what it is. He lost it in the end.

Sorry am late in posting here. I started reading volume 1 yesterday and finhed reading it late last night. But I will have volume 2 read by sunday. I will try to keep up form here.

And about volume one, I liked it but I wish they would have kept Shane around a little longer. The artwork was not bad but I thank it was to cartoony for TWD. I know I could say more on what I thank of the volume. I just can't thank of what to say about it right now.

So Sorry I'm behind and late responding here. I got super busy. I'm almost finished vol. 1. I'm loving what I'm reading so far. Poor Shane! I like him even more now. I really didn't want to see him die, but it had to happen. And I was sorry that Carl had to kill him. What an emotional scene. I'll keep on reading so I can catch up...

I felt so bad for Andrea when Amy died. When she killed her before she turned that's when I knew Andrea would be one of my favourites in the future and I was correct.

So I'm a month late to this party, but I'm furiously re-reading the comics and reading these discussion threads, trying to catch up to the present discussion before the end of the week.

    Some thoughts:

    • I didn't like the fast pace of the story on my first read, either. You have to make the reader care about characters before you start having terrible things happen to them, and I wasn't feeling that at first. The only one I cared about was Rick. At some point, though, things begin to gradually slow down and I got used to the pacing.
    • When Morgan explains to Rick about the beginning of the ZA and how to kill the walkers, why doesn't he tell him that getting bit is what turns you into one? Rick doesn't know that he should be trying to prevent this injury, specifically, until he meets up with Glenn. It's a wonder he survives long enough for Glenn to tell him!
    • Regarding Rick's naïveté, another example of this is when Dale tells him that he suspects Shane has something going on with Lori. Rick doesn't entertain the notion even for a moment, and totally laughs it off.
    • Carl's killing Shane was shocking to me. I didn't see that coming and expected it to go down similar to the way it did in the show. By the time TV Carl had developed to the point where he could kill a live person, he had gone through many traumatizing events and had learned from them. Comic Carl is a lot more trigger happy. He'd just learned how to shoot! And though Shane was pointing a gun at Rick and had punched him earlier, he still didn't seem threatening enough to shoot and kill yet.
    • I laughed while re-reading the original laundry argument. Who knew one's choice of detergent could be such a polarizing issue in the ZA? ;)

Ok I am catching up now..

That's the thing I liked about the first season of the show, it was pretty true to the comic..

It's a pity they killed Shane off so early in the comic.. I liked comic Shane, I thought they killed him off way too early..

I agree, it was great to see how similar it was and how respectful of the source material Darabont was. I like Gimple's approach of staying true to the comic but mixing things up a bit so it's still unpredictable and a new experience though.

Yes I have great respect for Darabont & what he did with season 1. He made it feel so realistic, that pilot episode is still scary!

I like what Gimple is doing, but sometimes I think his symbolism is just too obvious and too obvious too often..

Yeah, I actually liked tv version Shane better. So, I wasn't sorry to see comic book Shane go.

I've just finished re-reading Volume I (It's been a while) and Shane really did get killed off too quickly. They didn't really stretch out his motives, or his friendship with Rick enough. As much as I hate love triangles, one thing I liked about how they did it in the show was to show how much Shane did care for Rick and how conflicted he was.

I'd also forgotten just how aggressive Donna is.

If you saw her husband you'd understand why.
