And it seems in this ZA, animals do not zombify, as in the Resident Evil movies. What I don't understand is why in the WD a scratch from a walker can turn a human but the dogs were eating the guts of a walker and, obviously, they don't turn. We haven't seen a zombie dog, horse, bird, etc. It seems to me that here lies the cure of the ZA. If there still existed somewhere a scientist and a working lab, finding out the reason why animals don't turn would be the key. Feel free to applaud my contribution to the solution to the ZA.

This was discussed somewhere else around here too, but so far we only hear people saying that a scratch will turn a human, but no actual evidence that this is true, and quite a bit of evidence that it's not true. I think it's just something they think, but isn't true. Think of all the times characters have been completely surrounded and being grabbed at by lots of walkers, but were perfectly fine. You can't tell me Tyreese didn't get even a scratch in his fight with the walkers.

I agree, they have been virtually absent compared to the amount of pets that we have, cats included. You'd think they'd have seen more, even allowing for the amount of animals that died from starvation, being trapped in homes and unable to get out, ones that get caught by zombies, other predators, etc. Actually, in thinking of it, I'm suprised they haven't encountered more predators...especially being out in the woods so much. A bear, a wolf, Darryl at least mentioning "hey there's some spoor here we have to be careful", but perhaps that's just not worth adding in.

It does make me think though, it's been pretty absent before why start adding it in now (and BTW, it was a gorgeous dog and looked in great condition), so it really just stuck out as odd.

You're forgetting the horse at the beginning of the series in season 1!

There have been tons of animals before this season really. I guess they were the first ones not really domesticated

Actually, the endospores that cause a tetanus infection cannot stick to a dogs/cats nails. the reason people get infected from rusty nails is because the endospores that cause the infection, clostridia tetani, naturally adhere to inorganic surfaces- metals, rocks, glass, etc.

however there are a TON of horrible diseases you can get from both cats and rats, and the fleas that cats pick up from rats could carry Yersinia Pestus (boubonic plague) or Toxoplasmosis (zombie rat disease).

Dogs are much more genetically similar to their ancient feral ancestors than cats and would VERY quickly breed more "new wolves" within 5-6 generations.

Not the first time animals have been on TWD,but the first time I've seen them feeding on a walker. It was a nice touch I thought. They didn't seem very enthusiastic about eating him though as he probably tasted like crap.Very realistic.

    CUTE

I'd be so screwed in the ZA...My yappy Pomeranian would run his mouth alerting a horde and I'd be walker poo :dead:

Don't forget the woodchuck in Season 2 (grantedly, woodchuck remnants), Hershel's cattle, Hershel's chickens, the dogs in the streets of Atlanta and the big, bad dogs (he, he) of Los Vatos. There would have to be tons of mice, as well as rats -- And since its Georgia, cockroaches, fire ants, yellow jacks, water mocassins, raccoons, crawdads, salamanders, fish and maybe some bats.
