Er, don't know if you've been watching the show but these days the biggest threat is from HUMANS not walkers, and the humans all appear to have crazy arsenals (the tank) and Gareth we know has flash bangs and tear gas and they know they are dangerous since he wanted to kill them all before leaving terminus. Also Daryl piped up with his worries about being watched - alarm bells should be ringing.

You are laughing your ass off about what use or point would one or two people standing guard would be - massive. Standing guard means keeping an eye out in the event anything happens you can try to save lives, either fight or flee doesn't matter but it gives you a heads up. Those one or two people would give you some time to get out of there, give you a warning. If you are all inside huddled in a corner then you have no warning system and your reaction to any threat, no matter what it is, is severely diminished. We won't see another tank, it was a reference but even if one rolled up to the church the 'guards' would hear it or see the trees being felled as it rolled in and would be able to warn the people to get out. Swap that with all sitting inside in a huddle boozing and the roof would be in before you got on your feet. That's the difference having guards would make - pretty substantial, Bob would not be dinner for a start even if he was stupid. Keep in mind people will likely go outside for a dump too, that isn't stupidity it's nature and they would be at risk same as Bob without any guards around. So perhaps he went for a dump first and cried afterwards..

Covering up the windows was the only necessary precaution. As long as they didn't bring attention to the church they were safe. Remember that the group commented on how remote the location was. I guess the group assumed that it was so secluded that nobody would find them. It was the Greene farm scenario again.

It's like what Rick said to Carl. Even when you think you're safe, you're not.

    They were complacent..

As already mentioned it would be easy to sneak up and light place on fire. It wasnt a stone church with slate roof . Even if attackers were smaller numbers, they would have advantage of being able to hide in darkness covering the entrances. The door would limit how many people could run out at a time. Ricks group could potentially be disoriented by smoke and flames (and lighted up up easier to spot).

What are you talking about??? Our group is superhuman, they don't need to do any of that.

A guard or two would have been likely to be sniped from afar.

That church was in a small open field surrounded by a forest. Anyone could have just shot any guard on site from a hidden position unless there were a few of them deliberately walking back and forth right near the edge.

They were tired, they were hungry, they went through hell and back to be reunited again. They want to enjoy one night, and if this wasn't a TV show they'd be right to assume that the termites would have likely all been dead already.

All I see is people grasping at straws over the most minor things.

Yes the lack of basic security was hard to believe. Carrying on loudly in a exposed building with nothing over the windows, no fence and hundreds of candles didn't seem how would would act a short time after escaping a trough death. 3 people leaving individually without being stopped or questioned? Ya right.

Even if you don't post a guard (which it would be easy for Bob to tell the guard he has to poop in order to get into the woods to cry and get kidnapped), at least cover the windows and / or don't light up the church with tons of candles. Besides, you might want some of those candles in the future too that they are burning thru (though I assume the church has tons of candles). Presumably, Gabriel has been sitting in the church with a candle every night with no issues. Surely walkers would see the light in any real world, just not in TWD world.

No - it was just plain stooopid. The Terminus people were still alive since Rick wanted to kill them all before they left. Yes you could be sniped but if they started shooting then they lose the element of surprise which is clearly what these people were into. I maintain, made no sense to hole up inside without a guard. And now (when it's too late) they have one.

Bob would likely NOT have been kidnapped at all if there were a couple of guards walking around that knew he was outside, or at least his loss would have been noticed immediately.

This line was quoted by you, not yours. somehow it seemed more convenient to post from this rather than finding the original again. Call it TWD-no-guard-laziness-syndrome.

On this show silencers are a dime a dozen, but they aren't that common, and firing at night is going to leave a huge muzzle flash regardless that anyone around would see. Also, a couple of guards taking shifts within eyesight of each other would stop them from getting burnt out of the building (as someone said earlier). Other than saying "we need a day off", there's no good reason NOT to post guards. Heck Carol and Daryl were standing guard in their building when they could lock themselves in, and there were only two of them.

Daryl and Rick whispered to each other that Daryl knew they were being watched. By the time Bob went outside the church and got knocked in the head, we know that Rick and Daryl knew Gabriel hadn't been the one watching them. So Rick and Daryl not only never told the others, but Rick was completely relaxed inside the church later and Daryl just left. First these characters keep important secrets from each other, then just easily forget about them. These characters are quite a danger to each other, don't you think?
