Not even the pouring rain was able to challenge the allure of...the CANDY!

So many awesome ghosts and goblins that I ran out of treats in just over two hours (and I thought I had really loaded up this year).

Love it, love it, love it!

I slowly received less and less Trick or treaters every year until I leveled out around 10 or 12. Its been in that range for 4 or 5 years now. 11 this year. When I was growing up there were kids all over the place, each house would have a line of like 5 or 6 kids in front of you. Now my doorbell rings once every 10 or 15 minutes. Granted it was a different neighborhood, but it was a very similar neighborhood. I think part of it is that my city has a lot of organized Halloween events to keep kids safer, like Trick or Trunk, where people fill up a parking lot with cars and give the treats out of their trunk. I can see why its a little safer, at least in the sense that they are less likely to get hit by a car or attached by somebody's dog or a teenage sociopath.

Private parties are increasingly popular for many of the reasons you stated. That said, there's something about seeing these odd creatures shuffling up and down the street that just makes the day for me.

It seems that each year, the turnout is just getting bigger for me. Not complaining, mind you.

I had a really fun Halloween a few years ago where I wore really baggy flannel clothes with some straw sticking out of my sleeves and I sat in a chair in my front yard all slumped over as if I was stuffed. The candy jug was in my lap. Then i'd animate at just the right moment and scare the parents as much as the kids. I also had a sickle and was running full speed up and down the street chasing everyone.

    Awesome!

I spent the last month or so hand-making my Golden Age Flash costume. Sewing on the lightning bolts, buying a WW1 helmet from Army Surplus (which is, what I learned, what his helmet is) and customizing it, creating the winged boots, the whole nine yards. Looks pretty darn cool, biased as I may be.

And, of course, it pours today. Sigh.

No way I was gonna put it on while running (no pun intended) in and out. Thing would've gotten ruined.

So, in my closet it sits, waiting for next year (I hope). Hope it'll still fit.

No biggie. Didn't need to dress up to have a fun day!

Placed a pic of the completed costume in my avatar, if anybody wants a look-see (hey, at least people get to see it today!). Please note: I may have overdone it on the grey, but GAF is supposed to be an old man, so...

    Hope you like!

I have a phobia of answering the door to trick or treaters. I refused to do it when I was living with parents. Dont ask.....I dunno, I'm weird like that. LMAO

Now I live in apartments so I don't have to worry about it. :p

That's so funny! If you move back into a place where kids trick or treat, you could put up a security camera to check out the goblins before you open the door to them. Would that make no difference?

I took my 4 year-old daughter trick or treating...she was princess Sofia the First, and I was her friend Crackle the Dragon. We...I mean she...got so much candy.

It’s not the costumes. It’s interacting with the kids. Lmao and I love kids! I don’t know what my issue is.

Like when you make effort to compliment their costume and be super nice, and they stare at you like this:

Just remember, they don't care anything about you. They are totally focused on candy. LOL
