How did Karen get sick?

    My friends all hate the walking dead so i cant discuss it with them and this question has been bugging me for a while now. How did she get infected? Was it the food or something? Or I was thinking it could have been that Patrick kid. The one with the glasses since he was the first one to get sick. Or maybe she got it from one of the Woodbury people? What do you guys think?

    Well the writers explained a number of times during interviews that it was a sexually transmitted disease so all the characters involved in various sexual activities, orgies and whatnot got sick...no really it was an airborne disease.

    Karen and David most likely contracted the flu whilst clearing the fences of walkers -
    the show made a conspicuous point of showing the infected walker by the fence...
    since K&D concurrently showed symptoms it's logical to assume this

    I did much worse, I don't think I let anyone pass me on the highway or held any doors (not even for an old lady) for a good week or two after that thread. I perceived the world in a different light.
