Woke up to really good news for central Florida. Dorian is following Matthews path (2016), and staying just off shore. If the high pressure ridge by the Carolinas stays weak, then the storm will continue to remain over the ocean.
The coast line (us) will still see strong winds, but it will be the outer edge of the storm.

The track this morning does look better for Florida - fingers crossed the models verify. Could go into the Carolinas as a Cat 2, which is nothing to spit at but better than a Cat 4. Here’s to hoping she curves and completely misses eastern US.

Dorian is now a 5. It also may hit Georgia and S. Carolina.
We are still taking precautions, just in case of a wobble

And there are now 3 more storms out there

We are now under a hurricane warning. :( And are expected to start feeling the winds early tomorrow morning. We helped board up my daughters house, while they helped board up someone elses house.
My Mom will remain in the nursing home, as they are a hurricane building.
We are about as ready as we are going to get.
Man, this is a killer storm. Hope it stays off shore.

One of the CNAs at the home has family in the Bahamas. He said that they are being destroyed.
    Praying for them right now.

We are starting to gets some winds. Not tropical storm winds, but it’s pretty windy this morning. And the are from the SE.
Off to dig our trench out front (the city use to, but hasn’t for the last 5years). It’s to help keep the road from flooding. We use the dirt for “sand bags”, and then put it back after.
@Sebrebc you be safe and keep us updated on your well being. You should be feeling like storm now down there.

We just dodged a very dangerous bullet. They expect the storm to finally leave the Bahamas (those poor people). Will head north as a cat 3.
We will only experience tropical storm winds.

There is a tropical disturbance 7 in the gulf. Models have it hitting Mexico.
There is also a tropical disturbance out towards Africa, heading west. We will be watching that one.

I am relieved for our friends on the east coast, this would been devastating for you all.

It looks like she is trying to make the turn to the north, albeit very slowly. I have seen some footage from the Grand Bahamas and it breaks my heart. Having a storm that strong sit over you for that long - I cannot imagine. It will take them a long time to recover from this.

The hurricane is 80 miles off our coast right now. We are getting heavy rain bands coming through. Plus now, we are getting tornado warnings. Thankfully none has been spotted.
I also heard the eye is regrouping as it slowly makes its way up our coast.
Thinking about everyone in Georgia and S. Carolina. Stay safe

Sorry to ask such basic questions, but I don't understand. With Katrina it was obvious how the levee breaks changed the water level, but when a hurricane hits an island, being a natural ecosystem, does the water level balance out and most of the land come back? and how long for that to happen? This is mostly surge that will dissipate when the hurricane is far enough away? Do they have to wait for warm weather to evaporate the water off of the land because it is so saturated? Yeah, I really am clueless. :(

The water will go down or soak in. But I’m sure the ocean is still churning, due to the storm.
Most of the buildings were under water at some point. And as in the video, they are just gone.
As of this morning, 7 confirmed deaths.
