Okay, at the beginning of Chapter 9 (pg 134) it says that Philip is driving a 2011 ( Yes, a 2011, again, a 2011) Cadillac Platinum Escelade. And you know what? THE APOCALYPSE STARTED IN 2003. The book was published in 2011, but, still, THE APOCALYPSE STARTED IN 2003. That is a huge mistake and should be fixed.mThe car itself was just authors craft. THAT IS BULL.

Hi, Robert Kirkman started the comic in 2003, but he never mentioned the timeline in his book, he never said APOCALYPSE started in 2003, as far as I know, it could start before the time Kirkman wrote the comic, it could start same time when Kirkman wrote the comic, or it could start in the future.

I can't find a quote of this but Robert Kirkman said it could take place in 2003 or 2010. Doesn't matter. It's just in the 2000-2010 era.

I noticed brief inconsistencies too, such as the timezone; for example - but ultimately, it was a minor blip in an otherwise amazing story to the Walking Dead series.

Perhaps engaging the book in what it's supposed to be; science-fiction, prior to reading, may reserve some of those nagging traits. :)

The biggest problem I had with the book was the overwrought metaphors that made it read like the narration to a bad film noir movie. Seems to have tapered off after the first part and the story got easier to read after that. Or maybe my brain adjusted itself to the silly writing.

The only inconsistency I noticed was involving apartment 2F -- at one point it's housing a family of five and then later on it's described as a studio. I could be reading way too much into that too.

What about the fact that the Gov we know in the comics is actually Brian, not Phillip.. Not to mention which one it is in the TV show..

Forget the show the book has nothing to do with that.

That's the point though isn't it?

Yes the show is on it's own. Just something fun to think about.. and yeah, the book is inline with the comics. We will see how much so when we meet Rick and the gang in book 3.

The point that we know he's Brian? Then, yes, I guess. A little confused by your response..

I guess the reason for my post was that I thought the biggest thing to come out of this novel was that Brain is the Gov, not Phillip.

Oh man, you guys don't have sharpies in the UK? Tough break, man.

I read Rise of the Guv'nah last November, and I can barely rememer what happened (other than the plot twist at the end, with Brian and Phillip).

Maybe it's just forgettable, or maybe I need to reread it.
