It's a generational thing really. People prior to cable TV, had very regulated network shows to watch here in America where even language was toned down. When I was growing up cable TV etc was the norm so it's a much different perspective than some previous generations.

I remember last year we had a thread on here where someone was even uncomfortable with the very unrevealing sex scene between Glenn and Maggie. So, yes there are some people who are sensitive to this type of thing but it's not the entire culture by any means.

 

You forgot the part were it was OK to call a average size woman(Alanna Masterson) a "fat azz" and say the reason her thighs were big were from eating pie. The wit of a wet fart on that "joke." Nobody even batted an eye.

This whole thread makes me laugh and quietly despair. Yes she looks like a stripper and is portrayed badly but that's the character not the actress. Which actress would turn down a role on the biggest show on TV cos she had to wear a ridiculous outfit and had zero dialogue for most of an ep?
I agree Rosita could find some jeans etc when scavenging around empty houses where she probably found the razor she shaved her legs with. Good to see there's more than crazy cheese to be found.

 

Differences in culture. Western Europe: irreligious, moral relativity, declining population, euthanasia, childhood euthanasia, otoh lower abortion rate and no death penalty.

USA: religious, moral absolutism, increasing population, strong arguments about respect for life, even in the brain dead, higher abortion rate, death penalty.

It seems to me it's just a different worldview.

 

If you can step off your USA bashing soapbox for half a minute to actually read the comments, and attempt to understand them, you'd see that it's not the amount of clothes she's wearing that people take issue with. It's the fact that for an entire episode she was just window dressing. A pretty background for the boys. No other woman in the history of the show has been dressed like that. Suddenly the one that is gets two lines and a bent over ass shot?

I think they should put more women in shorts. It's incredibly hot and humid in that part of the world during summer. 10 minutes outside doing anything but sunbathing and you're drenched in sweat. Yeah zombie bites kill but so does heatstroke. But why can't they wear shorts and have lines too?

If you want to have a legitimate conversation about world politics or the sexist double standard that exists between male vs female nudity then I'm sure there is an appropriate place for that here. Just don't try to hide your USA bashing behind "concern" that we're on the verge of becoming Afghanistan 2.0. We're not all puritan prudes just like I'm sure all Australians aren't dangerous convicts.

I like TWD for its strong female characters. But for all of you harping on "realism," not all women are strong, independent people. Some of them look to men for protection. Some of them see their sexuality as their primary value, and flaunt it to maintain their status within a group or with another person. Whatever. That's her choice.

What's not ok to me is the number of guys calling her a whore or pornstar for the way she is DRESSED, saying she needs to cover herself up despite the fact that they are in GEORGIA and even deep south winters are t-shirt weather, suggesting she is likely to be raped, because rape is DEFINITELY the fault of women revealing skin and not the fault of rapists. Saying she has a "boy body" because she doesn't have enough body fat on her for your taste. Calling the other women in TWD fat, when in fact ALL of them are quite slim (imo realistic, you gotta be reasonably athletic to survive this long in the ZA). Y'all are really gross.

 

Most of the people commenting in this thread didn't have their location listed, so how is everyone determining it's uptight USA people unable to cope with nudity? Not to mention the fact that there was no actual nudity...

As to Rosarita's outfit: Porn? Come on -- that's more clothes than a 2-piece bathing suit. It's a Georgia summer -- its hot, its unbearably humid; she's young. At least she's wearing leather boots and not 4" heels. If she were chunky with cellulite and a muffin top, no one would comment. Comfort versus risk of walker bites = personal choice. [Not saying she's smart in her fashion choice (or even that she's smart, because so far she hasn't said but one sentence)] Real question: the ZA happened in the summer. Why don't we see some walker chicks dressed like this? Is Nicotero a prude?

 

I think they keep the zombies covered up because uncovered zombies would need much more time in make-up to make them look decayed all over. Better to just put a long sleeved top on them.

I don't see anything wrong with her, I think her outfit is pretty ordinary, but it looks cool on her.

I also don't get the "comic" criticism. The thing I love about TWD is that it does have an obvious comic-book influence all the time and that's great! People should drop the "unrealistic" argument for good. TWD IS A COMIC-BOOK STORY! I'm glad they have this influence here and there and I wouldn't want it differently. It's what make TWD "TWD".

I agree, the nod to the comic book theme in the TV show is in an appreciative way to the readers I feel.

I don't read the comics, but have seen issues and understand the importance of the blending of comic book, videogame and soap opera into a compelling TV show with zombies. I mean that covers a lot of ground for fans that enjoy either (or all) of those mediums, and then kind of combined into one.

Yes, I also think that if Rosita continues to look like this the entire time she's on the show it wouldn't be as realistic as it can be. Now that they're on the road we'll have to see how her character evolves and changes. I bet she gets a little dirty/grubby and might re-think her wardrobe a bit.

 

To be honest I didn't give her outfit a second thought until I read this thread. There are way too many instances where I need to be willing to suspend disbelief to be overly concerned with unrealistic wardrobe choices.

People are judging her by the fact that she's wearing itty bitty tank tops and short-shorts when the weather Looks to be getting colder in the Show and is a safety hazard considering the Primary threat. Nobody has a Problem with clothing like that but when her and Beth are just waltzing around when it's reaching Autumn / Winter slowly and becoming gradually colder it's a bit silly and stupid. Then you have characters like Carl, Rick, Michonne, Glenn and Maggie who seems to be slowly putting on more and more layers.

I don't agree with People calling her a whore or a pornstar considering there is no reason to. I do not like the character in the Comics but she may suprise us in the Show therefore until the season is over i will be Holding out a slight hope, otherwise she's following the Comics and just being eye-candy with combat-skills.

The People calling TWD women fat are just pathetic especially considering the fact that the only female with any remote Kind of extra weight is Tara and she isn't even big. Look at the average size of woman in America and you'll realise that Tara is around the same size. I can understand if People are taking a dig at the actress's past Performances or if she has the look of the character or not but the hate the females on this Show get season by season is disgusting, First Sarah Waye Callies was called a Skeleton and a whore, then Laurie Holden was called an Ugly whore and got death threats by Daryl fans, Now we've got People bashing EMily Kinney because she's playing a Young kid without much combat experience, Alanna Masterson forbeing an average weight and Christian Serratos for looking like Tomb Raider.

I don't get the Tara debate. Just butthurt imo. They say she's untalented but can't pinpoint as to why. I think her performance is funny and believable.

And seriously, this lady(Rosita) has appeared in the last 10 seconds of 1 episode and about 2 scenes in a 2nd episode and she wears short shorts, and already everyone's jumping to conclusions. Keep your junk in your pants a little longer so you don't make so much of a fool of yourself when the episodes actually premiere and you were wrong anyway.
