between his comment to merle about getting extra time to spend with his girls and seeing him in the car. i get the feeling he won't last long. wasn't it a mistake for him to go with them. how would he be able to help if gunfire had broke out?? As for zombie's a few of them can easy take him down now, even if he is armed with 2 guns. what was rick thinking??

At the beginning of the episode he was in the car and I thought he would remain in the car as the driver. Later when he was outside the car I thought perhaps he had a peg leg attached and didn't need crutches--but no, he still had his crutches. He would have been a goner if he needed to move quickly.

He is probably the best shot in the group except for Rick and maybe daryl. He isn't useless still.

Hershel, Carol, Beth and Merle all can be gone at anytime. Glenn, Maggie, Rick, Carl, Michonne, Possibly Morgan, Daryl, Tyreese will be the only survivors of team prison.

I can see how Hershel's weakness in mobility makes him vulnerable in ZA, but still, it would be nice having him around till season four.

Funny how people always think that the most expendable characters will be the only ones to die. It wouldnt be a season finale without a MAJOR character dying ala SHANE, LORI, ANDREA, GLENN, DARYL. Someone major.

did you watch lauren cohan on talking dead? moderator asked her about her and her dad, and she started talking about their future, caught herself spilling the beans, and begged out.

YES,,,,something will happen to one or the other or the relationship.

The real question was how come they gave him driving duties?

and could he drive a stick shift? Cuz, that would be awesome.

I assumed he was there for 3 reasons

    1) his diplomatic skills: if they were to end up in a Resevoir Dogs type scenario, Hershel may have been the best man to talk everyone down...
    2) medical knowledge: Someone may have needed some emergency medical help on the way back to the prison
    3) driver / extra shooter

Why did the Governor bring Milton? He would have been even less valuable than Hershel if things popped off... hah

Maybe the governor needs Shupert in Woodbury. It's generally a bad idea to concentrate all forces in one place.

True but Shupert can't hold the place down he should have left Martinez and taken Shupert. Jesus he's really losing his muscle Tim, Crowley and Merle are all gone

Come to think of it, the governor did speak highly of Martinez to Milton. I guess he lacks foresight in allocation of manpower. OBTW securing a gun with sticky tape was rather silly don't you think? Imagine the time and noise it takes to peel off the damn thing.

Yeah that was rather foolish, he needs to find Morgan and get some new fresh ideas he'd be good at this sort of thing haha

I'd throw Judith in the group of expendables.

I suspect most of the casualties will come from your list of expendables, but to keep the impact of the "anyone could die" atmosphere I think they'll throw in a major character and keep one or two of the expendables (depending on how many they want to kill off). The most likely candidates would be Andrea/Glenn/Maggie. They could kill Rick, but I think they want to keep him until Carl is a little older, too much of the story is rooted in him and his son. Daryl is incredibly popular and while I can see them killing him, I think they'd have to earn it, this season they didn't give him the story arc which pays off well with a death (Andrea, on the other hand, has had a story arch that could end with her death as a kind of redemption, she was central to the conflict, Daryl was not). Michonne is too strong of a character and has too much potential going forward, I don't think they want to kill her off just yet.

I don't think Hershel is expendable (he has been a sounding board for Rick and a stabilising presence in the group) but I think losing him creates more interesting shifts in the group dynamic than keeping him. It gives either of his daughters more story to work with next season and it removes a stable and grounded guidance figure from the group (similar to losing Dale), allowing a different dynamic to take over. In many ways Hershel is one of the more valuable members of the group (without being as popular as Daryl or relate-able as Rick), that's why killing him off could be so tempting.
