Is this a real turning point in the life of Caryl Dixetier? Will they become distant and bitter? Perhaps even enemies to an extent? A sad soulmates become rivals story? Or will this blow over and they'll be besties again soon?

I think it's a lot like the Daryl and Rick situation. He is pissed at her but he doesn't hate her. He just needs time to get past this.

I think the connecting point is Glenn. Carol was framed blocking Glenn's painting while Daryl was looking over his grave. I'm sure the fact that him losing his cool cost Glenn his life isn't lost on him right now. He did a similar thing in the past so he will forgive Carol.

However, I'm really starting to think this is Carol's final arc. I would normally say there is no way they kill her off, but this last episode really seemed fo tie up a bunch of her loose ends. She had closure scenes with Zeke, Daryl, and Lydia.

I still don't think they'll kill Carol, but I see how you're picking up on that possibility.

The weird thing too is how obsessed she is with just killing Alpha even now. Lydia said to her that it wouldn't matter, in that it wouldn't end the whole danger to the community. So Carol remains a liability to the group even now. She's willing to risk everything and everyone, just to get revenge on Alpha.

Under normal circumstances I would think Carol makes it to the final season, if not survives the whole thing. I don't think they would want to kill of one of only 2 remaining season 1 characters. But man they really are setting it up though.

One thing that makes me think she lives is that Angela seems to like to take the old formula of the show and mix it up. We all knew in previous seasons when a character became the focal point of an arc, especially if their arc seems to come to an end, they are going to die. But she's mixed that up the past two seasons.

The most obvious to me would be Jerry in the episode *Bounty*. It started off with him announcing he was having a baby 5 years prior, then we saw him with his kids playing. As the episode went on he kept getting into dangerous situations and I was 100% sure he was dying. It was set up that way but she didn't kill him. So it's possible all these hints are red herrings.

I see why some think it's the of Carol, but I was actually thinking we might be seeing the end of Daryl. Although I have a coffee cup that says "If Daryl Dies We Riot", it looked to me like he was getting a lot of closure scenes - making amends with Zeke, telling Carol he'd never hate her, his time with Judith. Daryl has been getting a LOT of screen time the first 3 episodes of this back half, but I want to see him survive.

After the way Glen died that would be pretty hypocritical of Daryl not to forgive. The cave in might have provided another way out and give a couple people to attack the Whispers from the rear.

I think they'd be really stupid to kill off Daryl. There's no one left to carry the lead role load. Who would be next in the character hierarchy? Aaron? Gabe? (ugh) Eugene?

Nah, Daryl is the lead now. I really don't think he is going anywhere.

Carol had the right idea to take out the herd as the dynamite was old and not really transportable to the "real" cave entrance.

That would certainly be a shocker to have them kill Daryl. But I don't see it. They're working up to him being in a relationship with Connie, he's become a surrogate parent to Lydia and with Michonne going, he's probably going to have a leadership role thrust upon him too. Daryl is the one character I'd bet on making it to the end of the series.

    OR......

It could be closure scenes, yes. But not setting up her final arc.

I see them as more of closure of all the guilt she has carried around for so long. She is finally making steps to confront her demons. Yes, Alpha is still a big hurdle for her to overcome but I do not think that this is Carol's swan song just yet.

OMG I cannot believe I am about to do this....but here goes

The Daryl/Glenn arc cannot be compared to the Carol/Alpha arc

Daryl reacted to Negan's verbal and emotional attack on Rosita. Many in that line up were a short fuse waiting to go off. Did Daryl possibly play a part in Glenn's death? I think the argument could be made that his actions did play, to some degree, a role.

BUT what Carol is doing has been going on for months. Her desire to kill Alpha is based on emotions and a healthy dose of revenge. She has been asked over and over to check herself at the door. Daryl has pleaded with her to take a step back. He has pointed out over and over that her actions are affecting people she loves. And I believe that Daryl has been very generous in his tactics because he remembers what his actions in that line up caused.

Carol's is not a lapse in judgment. It is not a one time emotional response to a moment that is occurring in the present. She is making bad decisions over and over again over a span of time without any regard for the consequences.

So you read it here first people. This is me actually defending Daryl.

And I beg of you all...Do not make me do it a second time :D

Hmmm, I wonder how long it would take me to find the text from you on my phone from that fateful night.

I believe it said something to the effect of: THIS IS ALL DARYL'S FAULT!!!!

You've come a long way baby.

    :D

OH I know!!!! I was so damn pissed at Daryl.

BUT his actions of that night cannot be compared with the actions of Carol.

I think they will get past this. It will however stay a thread in the tapestry of their relationship. It can't be helped that it has added some darker hues that can never be undone. In some ways it has made their relationship stronger with Daryl's statement that testifies his unconditional bond with Carol. Yet it has also created a distance between them that will be hard to bridge, unless Connie survives.

It was a breathtaking scene between the two characters/actors, so much conveyed in a handful of words.

Well, I guess I'm in the minority here. I tend to think that Carol was the only one who had the right of it. You can live with a rattlesnake in the room and it's gonna take a few people out. . . Or you can hunt it down and cut it's head off and end it all. Either way you might loose a few people. Carol has learned that she doesn't have to set still and let life kick her around. . . She's now quick to get up, shake the dust off, and kick back. She's a survivor and dang, she's got grit! Either she'll take out Alpha, or, as I said afor, she's the one who let Negan out on a search and destroy mission. She's the only one to see you can't live with a rattlesnake wihout gitting bit. JMO
. . . . Besides she's cuter than a little speckled pup when she reacts with the kids that pursue her so relentlessly. lol

I think the most interesting part is that Carol is in fact right in so many ways. Yes, disposing of Alpha should have been done a long time ago. Yes, blowing up the herd was a good idea. The problem is that Carol wasn't communicating and collaborating with Daryl and the rest of the group, and her emotions and somewhat unstable mental health has clouded her judgment and put other people at risk, possibly causing some of them to die.

Daryl, like always, sees the bigger picture.

Oh the famous Glenn Card, lol

Let me just say this. Glenn has always been one of my favourites, and I will never forget him. I still miss him terribly. I love every moment when someone mentions him or thinks of him or he’s remembered or referenced in any way on the show. Yet I never, not for a single moment, blamed Daryl for his death. That was all Negan. Clearly he wasn’t done with them with just one death. He kept pushing. He was going to kill someone else no matter what. Then that was still not enough to bring Rick into submission. He needed to keep pushing further. No one in that lineup ever blamed Daryl, only Daryl blamed himself, like he always does. He probably thinks now that it was his fault he didn’t keep Carol under stricter surveillance.
