Illiteracy in the apocalypse

    As we can see from the short reading class scene, the Alexandrians are still struggling to maintain the craft that separates civilized people from savages: reading and writing.

    The problem might be keeping the kids interested and involved in their studies, especially when there's a hostile group putting the heads of your neighbors on pikes. :eek:

    Are they struggling? Lydia was struggling but she's new. Gracie, who is only about 8, knew the word "received". I think they were actually trying to contrast the Alexandrian kids with Lydia, showing that Alexandria is actually doing pretty good with that stuff. That's why they showed a much younger child having to assist Lydia.

    You are right, @Neuropyramidal . I completely forgot, over the time since last season ended, that Lydia was with the whisperers. Looking at it this way, it shows a glimpse of how the whisperers live.
