Yes, they specified Carl was delivered by c-section. which is also why Carol was practicing the procedure on the walker corpse. I'm sure you'll be able to come up with some reason why that was Lori's fault too though.

Since Lori had a previous c-section, and knew that there was no way to have another one in the situation they were in, they should have loaded up on everything they could have once they secured the prison - try an abandoned hospital for pain meds (at least for Hershel), IVs, everything they could bring back. Ditto for baby stuff - a crib, or even a playpen. Clothes, diapers, wipes, medicine, blankets, and even formula, just in case.

Someone, maybe Hershel, should have knocked some sense into Rick - saying that since he himself (H) was widowed twice, Rick needs to step up and make amends with Lori, forget about the past, yadda yadda yadda. For someone who was so concerned about his pregnant wife, he didn't go with Hershel when Carol asked him to check on Lori. And after seeing how upset and remorseful Lori was, Hershel really should have said something to Rick.

Anyway - getting back to the poor planning - they stopped at many houses during the time between S2 and S3. Was there no house to grab extra clothes? Water? Any medical supplies? Weapons? Hunker down in a house and rest for a week or so?

I agree - poor planning.

Maggie mentioned that since leaving the farm, she and Lori had been keeping an eye out for baby products, but most of the stores had been picked clean.

Rick wanted to make amends with Lori after he found a place that was safe for the group, but soon after taking the prison, they never got the chance to make amends.

I agree, but there was plenty of time -not counting the 7-8 months between the seasons, but he completely ignored her - when they walked into the house in the first ep, she looked at him and smiled, he didn't even look at her. When they were outside the prison at night, he forced her to take whatever food he had, so he did somewhat care, but when she walked after him he looked totally ticked - like he was going to punch her. He blew her off with "you wanna talk....talk to Hershel" He walked away when she went to thank him for securing the cell block. Then, the scene when she was so upset and talking to Hershel, he had showed some concern when Carol called Hershel, but made no effort to see what was wrong.

I think it was a good plot - building up so much tension, then killing her before they could make up. But IMO there plenty of time - even take 5 minutes during the chat on the platform after she gave Hershel CPR. Pregnant women are so emotional, and she really needed him. Yes, I know that he needed her when he told her about Shane, but Hershel should have stepped up and told Rick that whatever happened was in the past......blah blah blah.

What can I say....maybe I watch "The Notebook" too much and wanted an emotional reunion.

Stepping off the soapbox.....

Agree - by this time in the ZA, stores aren't going to be a good (or safe) bet, given how militarized and uncooperative other survivors are proving to be. They should be scouting for warehouses and distribution centers and supply trucks on blocked roads.

Rick should have known that he wouldn't have time. I had missed that Lori had Carl via C-section (how I missed "Follow the scar" I'm not sure, but there was a lot going on in that scene). Hershel probably could have managed delivering the baby via C-section if he had been in a well-equipped lab. Alas, the group had been driven back and forth by herds all throughout the winter and didn't get a chance to hole up somewhere. Even if they'd managed to get to the prison six months before, their prospects would have been a lot better (and remember how close they were to the prison the night after the escape from the farm).
tink I'm not expecting high quality thinking from Lori: Pregnancy clouds the judgment, as does emotional trauma, of which Rick and Shane supplied her with plenty.

She had some very poor judgement at times, but overall I don't find her as horrible as a lot of people do. It's sometimes hard to always do the right thing even if your husband wasn't shot to death (or so you think) and the world has come to an end...

Mistakes are a big part of TWD. If they planned and executed everything perfectly like some sort of survivalist's wet dream, there would hardly be any catalysts for "oh sh*t!" scenarios.
