Looking into getting me a good survival knife, I'm not a knife pro either. I was thinking a type of Ka-bar but I was told the blades are really thin. I looked at a Busse Team Gemini knife but they are like $300, too much for my budget. Whats your take?
You get what you pay for, so if you need it to survive and it breaks a warranty will do you no good and depends exactly what you might use it for. Check this site out: http://www.survival-gear-guide.com/best-survival-knife.html
There is a reason our Armed service men and women along with LEO's carry KA-Bar. There is a lot of good knives available including the KA-bar andthe Gerbers carried by Rick/Shane but I suggest knowing you states laws on knives before purchasing one. Example, auto-assist knives are illegal in most states except by Law Enforcement. Some states doesn't allow anything over 2" while others allow anything under 5.5." Now owning a kinds, assault rifle or rocket launcher isn't going to do much good without training. So I would suggest some type of former training like tactical knife fighting etc.
Well, I'm from Alabama .. and we pretty much can carry any knife we want but perfect idea on tactical knife fighting. I will defiantly be looking into that.
I think realistically a folding knife is best for all around use. But one that can be opened quickly. Spring assisted knives are illegal in Cdn but there's still many knives that could be opened fast. Also you don't need such a long blade to do the same job as a shorter one. Depends what you're using it for I guess.
I was reading a really interesting article about knife legality and its probably best, no matter what you get, to err on the side of caution when it comes to the law. If its ever used for self defense, the more utility oriented the better. I mean, if you are sporting a legal knife, but its looks but super bad ass and its model name is "Bloodletter XR 3000" and has embossed skulls all over it, that won't really look good for you in an actual court trial. Just some food for thought...
A bang for your Buck I would have to say that quality and quantity go hand in hand with Gerber and Buck. There are several knives one can purchase(I men folding blade knives), from these companies that are durable, corrosion resistant, and stay sharp as hell, with many other great qualities. Knives such as the Buck Bones and the Gerber Survival Series Scout, or the Gerber Bear Grylls folder w/ sheath, are all amazing folding blade knives under 40$. But that's my own opinion. And they are easy to carry. But again, check your local or state knife laws. these two companies have wow factor and programs with both military and law enforcement. And they are in most knife specialists top 5 brands. Head to the websites to check them out.
The military and many law enforcement agencies all praise the KA-Bar as an innovative masterpiece of weapon, tool and huge development in knif culture and science. And it IS all of those. One of the best knives for survival, in my opinion, and in MANY others.
I've had the same Buck knife for about (many) years. the blade broke once, sent it back to the factory, and it was replaced free of charge, as well as the knife getting polished to a hi sheen. Keep it in the car now, and I can't say how much strapping tape it has cut, or cardboard boxes it has opened. On the Ka Bar, all I know about them is that that's what my brother used in the Marines, and if the Marines use them, they are probably a good, durable tool.
It's hard to beat a good machete. We picked up ours for about $30 at the army surplus store. Make sure to pick up a sharpener and figure out how to use it.
I own one KaBar - the last ditch knife. Absolutely tiny, hence the name, but a wickedly sharp and concealable slasher. Next on the list would probably be their flagship military style fixed blade. Or even a TDI.
In Kansas you can carry whatever you want. Auto's, butterfly, any size you want. I carry an auto knife made by Boker that is great or my Ka-Bar TDI folder and love it. Customer service at Ka-Bar is also wonderful. My pocket clip broke and they sent me one out with screws and a tool at no extra cost. Gerber makes great knives I own 2 of them for hunting and for survival if I need it. If you go with Gerber make sure it is one that is made in the USA, the others tend to be junk. I own quite few different brands of knives. My favorite are Esee knives. Great knife and wont break the bank. Just my 2 cents.
I used KABAR's for my entire time in the military they dependable and affordable there new EK Commando line is excellent
I bought all my groomsmen the Ka-Bar 1214 as a present and it's a pretty decent knife. Though it feels a little heavier and it's 7" blade might be an issue if it gets stuck in some zombies head. That and I'd probably cut myself with it sheathing it...:shining:
u can get hard plastic sheaths eventually u will cut yourself or knife will slice into leather sheath they rarely get stuck if u use twist draw when pulling knife out
Yup, they come with a hard plastic sheath. But that extra half second you spend twisting it out could be a zombie taking a big chunk out of your arm...=D That being said, I'd love to have a phaser rifle with unlimited power packs from Star Trek during a ZA...
