Not in this case.

What's up with Daryl driving around on the Walker magnet?

I personally wouldn't want to ride a motorcycle in a ZA. Too loud and too exposed.

I think about this every time he starts that motorcycle up. Especially one as loud as his (Merle's) is. But it moves fast....so whatever works I guess. It's cool looking though, if he would just find a way to take the lightning bolts off.

Do any of you know anything about Motorcycles ? That bike has an engine out of a Norton which is about 35+ years old...lemme see here. Super Old bike, and it's an English bike too which are notorious. The English dont make too many super reliable vehicles, especially way back in the 60s-70s.....but hey this is TV. If it were me, I'd be on a Jap 250 dirt bike. or no bike at all cause the OP makes one hell of a Great Point......maybe something bigger and Not a convertible....I'm with Michoone get to an Island and live on top of a very steep hill, that way you have no fear of Walkers attacking ever

It's not like he has a lot of choice of what bike he has. It was his brother's bike....and he ditched his truck in favor of something that was better in gas mileage and probably faster than what he had....

....as for the island. That would drive me insane. I'd rather take my chances somewhere that has a lot more resources than an isolated island. Even if you had one other person to keep you company, I still see that as a death sentence....Walkers or no Walkers.

But to each his own....

We have had this discussion before and I still think the same way. In a rural setting such as what they are in now, a bike might not be to bad. The noise on his Triumph is an issue though. For the most part he just has to avoid herds. It's quick and more mobile then most vehicles. That and he can go off road some and not get stuck on a road that is jammed up. Gas millage is a plus as well. In general I wouldn't take a bike, but if I did it surely wouldn't be a road bike.

I agree that bikes are not a good idea, but there are some good uses for one if it isn't loud. Recon and quick insertion missions in rural areas could benefit from motorcycles from time to time.

I don't know too terribly much about Motorcycles(just recently purchased my first - modified 57 Triumph), but I'm fairly certain Merle/Daryl's bike is a Triumph Bonneville. I think Axel even said it was a Triumph when he was kissing Daryl's ass.

I know a guy that works at the shop where they keep the bike up for the show, so I can ask him what exactly it is. I'm about 95% certain it's a Triumph by the looks of it...

it's not the best bike, but it's his brother's bike that he's keeping as a memory. No matter how bad a choice it is he's going to keep it for that reason.

Quite honestly, the vehicle choices made in the show are stupid. They have a plethora of cars available to them - on every road they come across, in parking lots, hell, they could visit any number of abandoned car dealerships and have the picks of the litter.

Far better than a motorcycle would be a scooter - incredible gas mileage, small and easy to traverse tight spaces and pretty darn quiet. Not as 'cool' as a Triumph, but less likely to break down and easier to repair.

For all the rest, they should be on the lookout for toyota highlander hybrids or similar 7 seaters with hybrid engines - use the limited fuel they have when they need it and let the brakes fuel the batteries for longer driving.

I'd be looking for a 250cc off-roader like a KX or a DT, but as has been mentioned, the Triumph has significant sentimental importance.

Again, i'm fairly new to motorcycles, but I can say that a Triumph isn't good in the ZA because it's hard to find replacement parts as needed. Especially for the Pre-Unit models...

I didn't mean to rehash something from the past. I'm a noob and have watched this entire series in the past 2 weeks.

Bottom line, if they are so concerned with making unnecessary noise then that type of vehicle (sentimental or not) is not an option. It's one thing traveling on it going in one direction but when you come back to the home-base on the thing it's lunacy.

Does anyone remember when Shane was shot it showed hundreds of Walkers change direction when they heard the shot?

Like Bassman said, it is a Triumph. In reality, it would be a poor choice(way too loud, hard to find parts, iffy reliability) but it works in the show because it just oozes "coolness", just like Daryl. A dirtbike would be a better choice and while I love my Kawasaki KX450F it is WAY to loud and requires a lot of maintenance on my part. Like DJEvvo, I would opt for a enduro/trail bike(WR250, XR250, etc.) if I could find one. Simple, easy to work on, fairly quiet and decent mpgs.

BTW wrjones73, those lightning bolts are "SS" stickers.

A school bus is a little big. Haha maybe they should all just ride bicycles. Quiet and can move in tight spaces haha. I joke, if no one realizes.

Yeah, and I hate what they stand for. :hatchet:

Yeah it's Merle's bike.....but Daryl isn't a racist so I wish he would take them off.

I mentioned the DT because I used to own a DT125R myself and even with my very limited knowledge of motor mechanics, it was incredibly easy to fix.

Replacement parts, I'm not so sure of. Certainly in my area of England, you'd be lucky to find parts for anything besides the Suzuki GXR, Kawasaki Ninja or the Yamaha R series. And since I wouldn't be comfortable taking any of these bikes off-road, I wouldn't even consider them for use in the long term.
