Wasn't it strange that the Father observed and pointed out to Travis that he picked up on his being Mauri?

I know that Cliff Curtis is actually Mauri but it seems more than Obtuse that it would be thrown into this show,I thought he was said to be Hispanic in FTWD?
I thought I even read or heard it from Curtis himself in an interview?

Will this come up again later or are they just trying to be as cryptic and detail driven as possible for no apparent good reason?
    Strange I tell you,Strange!:zombies_shocked:

It was introduced to support ranger dad's philosphy that it would understandable that one would want to stay in a certain place and even die there rather than dying someplace else.

The strange thing is, ranger dad made it seem like being Mauri made it easier to understand why there would be a ZA, since he believed mother nature was course correcting.

Is there something in Mauri culture which says mother nature will do things to course correct including apocalyptic types of actions?

For some silly reason I thought it was a bit of a nod to Max Brooks.

So was his character Maori before or after he got the role?

Oh jeez, I'm from NZ and I have a soft spot for Cliff Curtis but this was a real cultural cringe moment.
I did think it was cool that they played Travis as Maori but yikes, this bit was painful.
Compared to NZ film roles where he gets to play Maori, this was BAAAAD...
Oh dear. poor Cliff too because he's such a legit dude, still lives in Rotorua, totally in touch with his culture.
    Gah...

It was a change they made after Curtis got the role apparently.

I thought for sure Cliff would get a game of touch sevens going on the beach with the kids....

Maybe, in the future, he will perform a Haka before killing the infected.

His last name Manawa, sounds Maori to me. And I agree, I also thought it felt a bit forced or contrived to bring up the Maori thing. I'm thinking maybe they end up taking that yacht deep into the pacific heh.

His ex wife was definitely Hispanic though making his kid Hispanic/Maori

In all fairness, Curtis doesn't sound terribly Maori, either...

Was a beast in Virus that Tattoo. Makes me look into the future and could see him becoming a monster of a zombie killer if they choose to go that route with him...

Same goes for Alicia. Her character in The 100 was a cold-blooded killer when needed, and I could see that being the way they could go with her here as well.

Maybe the writers want to boost rating in New Zealand, and thus connecting Travis to being Maori?

Just sounded a little heavy-handed to me. Either that or the writers wanted to portray some goofy white guy as "Hey, I'm hip to that jive!"
