The artwork got better. Not as cartoony as volume one. I like Charlie's artwork over Tony Moore's not that his is bad. I just like Charlie's more. But back to the volume. I liked the volume. I like knowing how
(I put this in spoiler tags just incase anyone has not read the rise of the governor yet and don't want it spoiled.) Can't really thank of anything more to say about the volume right now.

Sorry, I woke up early and beat the Clarion call this evening. ;P

I want to bring to attention how different Tyreese and his group were brought in. Not just the blizzard conditions (Which would be nice to see at least once in the show, but another time.) but on TV he came in with Donna, Ben, Sasha, and Allen. Allen, Donna, and Ben are already with Rick and Crew, and he has his daughter and boyfriend with him. No Sasha at all. Why do you think they could have made this change? I mean, it would have been fine to replace Sasha with his Daughter, and Ben could have just been the boyfriend. I

have just never fully understood this change above all others between the Comic and TV. It has been the most baffling diference to me, and I don't know why it stands out.

Plus, I would have loved to see Wiltshire Estates as it was in the book as opposed to the one-off nod it got in the show. That could have been half a season right there, and if it was necessary to do the Sophia thing a good jumping off point before getting to the farm.

I liked the intro for Tyreese and thought that there was a lot of build up. These issues were really exciting. Once Shane was dead and Rick and co left that camp, it really took off from there.

Yeah, the odd pairing of characters has always stood out to me too. Sasha was a good decision, replacing Julie and Chris who weren't particularly interesting. The introduction of Allen, Ben and Donna has always confused me though. For starters, Donna didn't even last 10 seconds, and Ben and Allen were totally useless. Idgi.

    That's okay :)

That is one of the reasons I love this series. In either the Comic or the TV they start off as a small camp of survivors; It has the feel of any ordinary Zombie story in the beginning, but opens up into a larger story around the time that most movies start running their ending credits. Leaving the Atlanta camp was only their first baby step into this unique world.

It took me three weeks to figure out that those folks with Tyreese were Allen and his family (Oddly missing the twin son Billy) They were poorly cast, and even more so written. Ben was way too old, Allen and Donna were both too thin, Hershel had already taken Allen/Dale's Leg storyline, and there was just no reason to drag them into the story at the point that neither of them got to in the comic.

It was probably for the best, there was No Andrea or Dale to take in any leftover kids, and I kind of like how they reworked the story for "The Grove".

On an unrelated note; Don't the the twins Susie and Rachel give off a kind of "The Shining" vibe?

Although, introducing Allen and Donna with Billy and Ben/Lizzie and Mika would have been a good introduction arc for the kids, if they weren't sent off to Woodbury.

I blame Lori. If she would have just moved on after dying things would have been better. It is bad enough to have zombies at the walls, but to have ghosts in the halls was going too far. They should have ran after them and insisted they stick around until Rick had finished his LSD flashback and came to his senses. It is not like he was telling them to get out, just the worlds most judgmental specter.

According to one interview, we would've gotten the pre farm and tyreese stuff in season 1 if it was longer than 6 episodes.

I had read volume 2 by yesterday and was looking for the discussion thread, but it was made at 2AM today here in England and I was asleep haha! If this is the norm I will most likely be a little late for the discussion by a day.

First of all, I think the main thing to notice is the art style change, I remember when I first read the comics and noticed the change I preferred the detail from Moores work, but now I definitely prefer Adlards work as I have said before it fits the eventual mood and darkness of the comics much more.

TYREEEEEESE! such a like-able character and definitely one of my favourites!
(spoiler tagged for those who might be reading through with us for the first time.)
Just look at that tackle! He is a machine, and an honest/just guy too. I wish the show made him as cool as this :(

Maggie looks crazy different! and the last page/prison establishing shot gets me pumped for whats to come!!

    p.s. "what's a segs?" haha

You make a good point. This is exactly how I excused the Lori and Shane tryst in season 1. I desperately wanted to like Sarah Wayne Callies in WD. (Prison Break fan, sorry). There was just so much of that in the reading this week, Shane and Lori, Julie and Chris, Carol and Tyreese, Maggie and Glenn, Rick and Lori...gak. it felt a little heavy handed to me.

I was confused by this too, but ultimately, I think they just used that whole storyline to introduce Tyreese and Sash, the two characters who would stick. Comic Donna and Allen survived for a while because they were with an organized, stationary group. Considering their age and physicality, I don't think the comic characters could have survived on the run. I have no idea why they would replace Julie with Sasha.

Still, in the end, I think it was just a Vector for Tyreese

Lewh, by all means, start discussing when you're ready to. Anyone can begin the thread, anytime. The most important thing is to read and discuss.

Uhm, segs is just a child's misinterpretation of the word sex. See volume 2.

I get where you are coming from there. Perhaps Kirkman had something a bit different in mind and was initially going to go more of a romance/horror, love among the apocalypse type of thing? I can definitely see shades of that in this volume, and slight echoes of it going forward.

I had to do an emergency rewrite myself lately, slowing up my progress but necessary for direction going forward. Hopefully, it is not something I will have to retcon out or change later. I would like to avoid jarring my readers as much as possible.

Too bad they hadn't been filled in on Rick's mental state before he returned.

I'm not used to trusting Rick in this volume. It's sad knowing how horrible his life is going to be very soon.
