tomahawks have been seen!, which look as though can be upgraded and be used to grab power ups.
Also is the giant dog a trap/equipped device/power up maybe because its eating zombies?

The 4x4 square with the numbers, if you equate the numbers with the corrosponding letters of the alphabet, its reads MOBOFTHEDEADABCD , Just incase you havn't noticed it yet

Not sure if anyone's posted this yet but I think we have our answer as to what the ending sounds of Die Rise were trying to hint at. Sounds of a gate/prison cell door closing, sounds of chains... I think it was a direct hint at MotD

Not sure if you already have this, but where you said the power up is gravitating towards the player, if you slow it down, you can see that it has a tomahawk in it. Kind of implies that you can throw the tomahawk at the power ups to get them.
