I thought the whole series was Carl having a dream about a zombie apocalypse, but then it turns out that it was Rick dreaming that Carl was asleep and dreaming it, and but actually Dale was dreaming that Rick was dreaming about Carl dreaming about a ZA, but Tyreese was dreaming that Dale was dreaming about Rick dreaming that Carl dreamed up a ZA, but then we realize Bob Miller was dreaming that Tyreese was dreaming all this, but not really cause Eugene was just dreaming that Bob Miller was having this nightmare.

But nope, Negan was dreaming that Eugene was dreaming all this about Bob Miller, but then nayyyy, The Hermit from Season 3 was dreaming all this about Negan's dream, but that's not the reality, because Joe the Claimer was dreaming this about the Hermit from Season 3, but Mr Roper from Three's Company was just dreaming this about Joe the Claimer, and the token gay guy from Good Times was dreaming this about Mr Roper, and actually, in the end, its Judith dreaming this about the token gay guy from Good Times.

So in the final minutes of the final episode, Carl suddenly wakes up, which causes Rick to wake up, triggering Dale to awaken, which causes Tyreese to open his eyes, leading to Bob Miller getting up to pee, causing Eugene to pop up, awakening Negan, thus awakening The Hermit from Season 3, brining Joe the Claimer out of dreamland, awakening Mr Roper from Three's Company, which awakens The Token Gay Guy from Good Times, and in the final shot of the series, we see Judith's eyes pop open and she spits up.

 

How about if in the final series the group finally make it to Washington DC where they find a military facility. They go in and the survivors see themselves strapped down with equipment keeping them in a forced coma.

It turns out the government rounded up people from all different backgrounds and inserted them into an apocalypse simulation to see how they'd fair in the case of a real life event.

Then the final shot is Rick waking up from the simulation in his hospital bed

 

A more likely scenario is that Bob Newhart will wake up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette and say...."honey, I had the strangest dream..."
