In the very first episode of Walking Dead at the very beginning Rick is coming down the road in his patrol car and comes to the gas station and all these empty cars are around and he sees a zombie girl and shoots and kills her. This is all BEFORE Rick is in the shooting accident right? How did he not know this was going on till he woke up? Or was it just beginning and he didn't really understand? I am confused??

I think this was when he was on his way to Atlanta from parting with Morgan.

Darabont liked using a sort of flash forward type scene at the very beginning of each episode

Yeah, it was just a sort of teaser to let the audience know what they're in for. Chronologically speaking, the event happened on with way to Atlanta. Before he goes to the farm house with the dead family and takes the horse.

Moving to the Days Gone Bye forum.

No it's a flash foward or or the rest of the episode is a flash back.

It was simply a case of "BOOM. Welcome to The Walking Dead."

quick question, is that a flashback or supposed to be sometime in the future. The scene when he shoots the zombie girl. It's not in the comics. And it's obviously not b4 rick went into a coma (is it). Was curious, what do u guys think?

Yes....it's a bit of a flash forward. It's after he leaves the police station, but before the farm house where he gets the horse. Darabont just put it at the beginning as a sort of teaser to get people ready for what they were about to see.

It was a flash-forward, between Morgan and Atlanta, or at least that is the general consensus. At one point I had the idea in my head that it was a flash-forward to the end of the TV series, where Rick would be on his own and travelling by himself. But of course, we've lost the cruiser and his nice clean clothes so I doubt that would be it.

Three seasons now, but I will always love the pilot. Glad the show is going strong.

I think its just a teaser kind of thing.

It doesnt fit in 100%, and he looks like he's seen a walker for the 1st time in his life.

I have a question about this! Why is he so surprised after killing the girl? Like he saw a few (at least) walkers before, before and after he met Morgan. I get he kind of breaks when he gets to Atlanta because who wouldn't, but a single walker? And after he killed some of them with Morgan?

The fact that he shot a dead little girl who wanted to eat him might have something to do with it

What I was meaning to say was that Rick was in shock. He'd seen some zombies before, but this was all still very new to him. Especially the sight of someone so young and innocent being a zombie. I mean, before the apocalypse Rick was a police officer. It was his job to help little girls like that, and now he has to shoot them in the head. :p
