    Season 6 Episode 1 Recap

It finally arrived! We started off back in Scotland in 1753, at Ardsmuir Prison when Jamie first arrived. We’re introduced to Tom Christy, another prisoner, who seems to be a holy roller Protestant who is supposedly in “charge” of the men when they’re out on work detail. The Catholic and Protestant prisoners are always going at it however which is a problem for the Warden. Jamie is looked up to by the other Jacobites who call him MacDubh. When Jamie observes that Christy and the Warden use the free Mason handshake, he requests that they make him a Mason too. The Warden is dubious but does whereas then Jamie also inducts the others. This makes it virtually a lodge which helps to restore the peace although there remains some animosity between Tom and Jamie.

Fast forward to North Carolina. Christy arrives at Fraser’s Ridge seeking some land in response to Jamie’s posters inviting all former Ardsmuir men to settle there. Jamie is out with Claire when Tom gets there but Rodger and Bree extend him hospitality and invite him and the people he brought with him to stay. Christie tells them he was indentured as a school teacher to a man who has now died and he has no where else to go. When Jamie gets home, he’s a bit taken back but goes with the flow.

The episode then deals with the sometimes awkward moments in getting the newcomers settled. We also meet Christy’s grown children Allen and Malva. They seem ok at first but we discover that Allen is a thief. Seems he picked up a powder horn somewhere and has been passing it off as his own. When he and Ian are out hunting the Browns and their safety committee (pretty much a posse) run across the young men and they spot the powder horn which must have belonged to the dead Brown brother. They don’t do anything about it at the time but later return and create a scene at the Fraser home during a gathering.

This results in Jamie having to give Allen ten lashes publicly and Jamie letting Christy know that he’s the master of Fraser’s Ridge after the tense scene with the Browns.

Jamie decides he’ll take a post offered to him as an Indian agent to prevent Brown from getting the job.

We also saw that not all is well between Fergus and Marsali. Fergus has been tending the newly rebuilt still but he’s drinking to the point where it’s causing a problem not to mention Marsali is pregnant again and she’s really to pop any time now.

Last but not least, Claire has been distilling ether to use on her patients during surgery. She’s also been using it on herself, not only to see if it works but we see her use it to help her sleep after she has a nightmare. This will turn out to have a major role in future events.

    S06E02 Allegiance

Jamie begins his job as Indian Agent meeting with the Cherokee. They tell him they want guns to keep trespassers on their own side of the treaty line. Jamie listens but doesn't promise anything. They stay over with the tribe. Sometime during the night a couple of Indian women appear at Jamie's side wishing to sleep with him....as it's considered an honor to service the Kings agent. Jamie is beside himself but manages to get rid of the ladies with Ian's help much to his nephew's delight. When they arrive home, the first thing Jamie does is jump Claire's bones, much to her delight! Later Jamie talks to Claire about whether or not he should arm the Natives based on what happens in the future while Ian asks Brianna. They both get the dismal truth. Ian outright declares he will side with his adopted people and Jamie finally comes to the decision at the end of the episode to ask the Governor to send them guns because his allegiance is with Ian.

We get to see more of the Christy family. What a bunch. Tom is so overbearing in his holy roller way with both his children but especially Malva. Both he and Allen try to stifle Malva's growing interest in Claire's "healing" abilities but she finds a way to spend some time with Claire learning what she can. One of the Elderly women who came to the ridge with Christy, dies, and in the absence of a regular preacher, he asks Roger to do the services.
Roger's no theologian but he remembers some of what he learned being raised by the Rev. Wakefield back in Scotland and agrees. The Christy clan has started building "God's house" before their own and it's there that the funeral takes place. As it gets underway, the woman is observed by one of the kids to still be breathing. Of course, Claire runs to her side to examine her and discovers what feels like an aortic aneurysm. She whispers to Jamie that the woman must have fainted but is slowing bleeding out and will be truely dead within minutes. The woman is able to speak and admonishes her son-in-law about being a skin flint with her funeral arrangements, lol, but they make up and all is well before she falls silent and really dies this time. There are whispers amongst the parishioners that Claire is a witch.

Tom Christy had a wound on his hand that Claire stitched in episode one. While checking on him to see how his hand is healing, she notices that he has a problem with his other hand that she tells him she can fix through surgery. He adamantly refuses telling her his affliction is God's will, blah, blah but when he can't hold a strap to beat his daughter with one day he decides maybe he better let Claire do the work.

Brianna makes matches but when she goes to tell everyone the good news, they jump to the conclusion that she's pregnant which pisses her off. Later we find out she's a bit touchy because she and Roger have been trying but no luck yet.

Marsali goes into labor and Fergus is off drunk and has to be fetched down to be with his wife. She tells Claire that Fergus has been hitting the bottle because he blames himself that he was unable to protect her when the Browns came calling last season. No one can convince him he wasn't at fault. Roger tells him he better pull himself together because his wife is having a hard time and calling for him. He'll never forgive himself if something happens to her. He goes and they reconnect. First he suckles her to help with the labor and after given some privacy you can hear them er....reconnecting in the next room. Jamie and Brianna leave but Malva is shocked. She can't believe that a woman could be enjoying herself during that. Claire instructs her that woman can indeed enjoy sex especially when it's with someone they love. The baby is finally born but to Fergus's dismay the child is a dwarf. Now he's only reinforced in his believe he's has brought this on his family. Marsali could care less and is so pleased with her new little one. She names him Henri Christian.

Later Jamie visits Tom at the church. He tells them that everyone should be invited to attend services there including Claire. He says he better not hear anymore talk about her being a witch. Better yet he should make the building a Masonic lodge. When Christie asks if he should remove the steeple, Jamie say no but that they should put a bell in it to call everyone to worship or to their lessons.

    S06E03- Temperance

The episode starts with some of the kids from the Ridge already bullying poor little Henri Christian. They've put him, as he rests in his basket, into the river to see if he floats to test to see whether or not he's a child of the Devil. The river has a waterfall down stream and luckily Rodger sees the whole thing and jumps in and rescues him...barely. He tells those little devils that Henri has been baptized a child of God and if they hurt him they'll be dragged down to hell. That seems to work but to drive home the point, Grandpa Jamie, has Germaine round up his cronies for a life lesson. He heats up a poker and then tells the boys they have a choice...either touch Henri Christian, which they had been refusing to do because they think his flesh will burn them, or touch the hot poker. They all choose to touch the baby whereas Jamie says, see? he's nay but a wee bairn and they need to cut it out or they'll deal with him. After the others leave, Jamie talks to Germaine explaining that as Henri's older brother it's his duty to protect him. Germaine seems to accept what his Grand da tells him.

Meanwhile, there's continued trouble in paradise at the Fergus and Marsali Fraser household. Fergus is still in his cups and he and Marsali have it out. She tells him that she and her sister had to put up with an alcoholic father and she won't have a husband that drinks to excess. Fergus is still all caught up with the fact that he wasn't able to save his wife and unborn son, at the time, from the violence they experienced at the hands of the Browns. For better or worse Marsali confesses that it was she that killed Lionel. You can imagine how that sat with an already depressed Fergus. In the end Marsali ends up kicking him out of the house.

Clare tries to talk with Fergus where he explains his fears for his dwarf son. In the brothel where he lived as a child, he relates that dwarfs were often used in the sex trade as kinky options for the patrons. One dwarf he was friends with was murdered, his parts then sold for elixirs, etc. Even if they protect Henri now, what will become of the lad when he's older and his grandparents and parents may not be around to help him? It comes to a head at Quarter Day where Jamie collects the rents from his tenants. One of the new residents calls Henri "grotesque" and Fergus loses it. After a scene, he ends up going off in the woods where he tries to kill himself by slitting his wrist. Jamie, who has followed him, rushes to his side and staunches the bleeding. Jamie talks some sense into him, among other things, telling him that he is a man of worth and he'll set the example for his son of what someone with a disability can accomplish. He then returns a sobered up Fergus to Marsali who welcomes him with open arms.

Meantime, back at the big house, Tom has decided he wants that hand surgery after all. Claire wants to give him ether but he refuses anything, but some whiskey:rolleyes:, to dull the pain. They have to tie his arm down and he sure as hell hollers bloody murder but Jamie helps him through it by reciting bible verses with him and Claire manages to get the job done. He stays the night to recuperate and when Claire goes down to check on him, they end up talking. Tom's a difficult man but they manage to converse in a friendly way.

When he comes to get his hand checked out he notes that there are novels at the house. She tells him that they read them and would he like to borrow one. Of all the books she could have lent him, it turns out to be Tom Jones. Of course, when he starts reading he realizes it's story line is somewhat raunchy and he returns it with a note that reads, "This is filth. I would have though better of you." In the meantime as his hand heals, he resumes strapping his daughter. Mind you, it's not that she's necessarily done anything but Tom thinks women are full of sin that must be driven out. I think it's he that has the sinful thoughts and is taking it out on his daughter...after all he can hardly beat Claire. He's taking a shine to her but I don't know if it's because he actually finds her fascinating or because she belongs to Jamie and he's always been jealous of Jamie. Not only that but as a viewer you can see that if Malva can escape such a bad home situation she's going to jump at it which will lead to some drama on the Ridge. She's already been talking rather flirty with Ian who happens to walk her home one day.

At the end, the British military delivers the guns for the Cherokee that Jamie requested. They learn that some of the Rebels have dumped tea into the bay in Boston. Claire is like OMG, it's the Boston Tea Party! She tells Jaime it's (the American Revolution) beginning.

Been unable to view Outlander for the last three weeks but I caught up finally....

S06E04 The Hour of the Wolf

We start off with Jamie sending Fergus out to sell the Ridge's whiskey. He tells his son that he'll make an excellent salesman and that he has every faith in him. Fergus says he knows that Jamie is trying to get him straightened out by putting some space between him and his problems and that he knows Jamie has saved his life. Just balancing the scales, Jamie replies.

Finally we get to see what happened to Ian when he was adopted by the Mohawk. During the trip to deliver the firearms, he tells Jamie what befell him. They put him through a ceremony designed to wash away his white blood and make him a full fledged member of their tribe. He becomes Wolf's Brother...aaaaahhh. That's a Rollo approved name! He falls in love with a young woman and she with him. Unable to pronounce her Indian name correctly at first he calls her Emily. They wed, and she becomes pregnant but loses the baby when she's actually quite far along. A subsequent pregnancy also ends in miscarriage. Fearing she will never have children with Ian, she puts him out of their lodgings as it's the woman who choses her mate and divorces him when she decides she wants to. Her mother explains that since Ian is white his spirit will never be able to overcome his wife's and give her daughter a baby. He's understandably hurt especially when he discovers that she has chosen a new husband, a young man who was a friend of his but he goes back to Fraser's Ridge as we saw in an earlier season.

As it turns out, his wife stealing  friend is one of the Mohawks who have come to the Cherokee land for trade. They tussle a bit and another Indian agent who is really interested in drinking Jamie's whiskey and trying to interest him in some illegal land dealing over the treaty line, helps to separate the two young men but is pretty rough and insulting with Kaheroton. The two have words and agree to a duel. Ian gives him Jamie's pistol to use, and agrees to go back and look after Emily and their little son if he is killed. During the duel, Scotchee ,as he's called, tries to cheat and draws early. Ian knocks the gun from his hand and Kaheroton, who by all rights is entitled to take a free shot...shoots wide as Scotchee begs for his life. Kaheroton announces to all that the agent has proven to be a coward and will have to live with it the rest of his life. Personally, I think he should have shot the guy, but that's just me. Ian makes peace then with his former "brother".

Before he leaves, Jamie tells the chief what Bree has told him about the Cherokee being forced off their land in 60 yrs and made to walk a great distance to a new place. The walk will be called the Trail of Tears. He explains that he knows this because the women in his family have "dreams" about the future. He tells the chief to remember this, and pass this information on to his descendants so that they might save themselves. In the future it will important for them to fight for themselves.

While Jamie was gone, Claire had been training Malva to be her assistant. They experiment with the ether (using Lizzie and one of the Beardsley boys to practice on) and Claire shows her her medical journal which she explains can be used to help future practitioners who want to learn from her experience, although Malva repeats the nonsense of it all being the devil's work.

When Jamie returns, he and Claire have a little reunion nookie in the stable and Malva of all people spies on them while they do it ala Eugene. Bitch has got something up her sleeve.

    S06E05 Give Me Liberty

Jamie and Claire have gone to Wilmington for what serves as a political rally in those days. to hear a Flora MacDonald speak. She was the woman who helped to smuggle Charles Stuart out of Scotland after Cullodan. Now she seems to be preaching a message of reconcilliation with England to try and smother the growing rebellion in the colonies. We learn that Aunt Jocasta who is also in attendance has bought a printing press newspaper business for Fergus to run so they will be close by her. Jamie's not happy but reluctantly agrees that it's what may be best for Fergus and his growing family. We also have a cute scene of Jo, Claire and Flora relaxing before her speech with a little wine and hemp flowers which Jo is puffing away on to ease her glaucoma. We also learn that a thief broke into Flora's room and stole her necklace. It was recovered, the thief caught but one emerald was missing. Uh oh. Not only that but Jo's maid tells Jamie that since Murtagh's
death, Jo sits around for hours talking about her dead daughters, and French gold.....hmmm

This is involved but Jamie has resigned from his position as Indian Agent and British higher ups are a bit concerned about his loyalty. Lord John assures them that Jamie is very loyal to the crown but is soon disavowed of that notion. Jamie gets invited to a meeting with the Sons of Liberty, but John lets Jamie know that the British troops will be showing up to arrest everyone. Jamie gets everyone out the back door except him and a couple of others who appear to be playing billiards when the troops barge in.

Back at the Ridge, Rodger has been spending quite a lot of time with the widow MacCallum, doing odd jobs and such. Bree is somewhat bothered by it and lets him know. He claims he wasn't aware of spending that much time over there but in the end realizes that maybe he should be spending more time with his own family. Then Bree hits him with the news that she's pregnant!!!!! Later, when Roger is helping Alan and Tom Christy bring over the new bell for the church, he enters the building first and discovers Malva making out with a man on the church floor! She threatens Roger that if he says a word to her father, that she'll tell eveyone she saw him kissing Amy MacCallum. Yikes! Not only that but earlier when Bree, Marsali, Malva and Lizzy were out looking for a good location for Bree to build a new water wheel, they come across what's determined to be a love charm using seaweed and finger bones.....Wonder who did that?????

At the end we see a man in jail, with long curly hair, with an emerald in his hand......I think we know this guy.......
