    I call it pop.

Denise called it pop and Daryl was like "What?"

I'm from Kentucky, and Alexandria is in Virginia so I figured they called it pop too. But Daryl is a redneck and from Atlanta and they don't call it pop??? I was so confused. LOL.

If you are from or near Atlanta, what do you call it?

We here in NoVa (Northern Virginia) most certainly do not use "pop" in reference to soda...

When it comes to Virginia, there's NoVa (which is basically the DC 'burbs) and there's the rest of the state. I don't know where that actual spot exists, but I'd say as far west as Mt Weather (near the Loudoun/Clarke county lines)... maybe narrowing it down to Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. As an example, Richmond is about two hours south of DC.

Actually, I live in Winchester and just violated my own definition, since I wouldn't consider where I live to technically be Northern Virginia.

My wife is from Buffalo and uses "pop," so when I heard her say that for the first time, I gave her a rather Daryl-like response.

He knew what it was I bet, but I think he was trying to make an awkward situation even more awkward.

In Minnesota, we say "pop". When my sister started college in New Jersey, she asked for a pop, and the guy said, "What are you, three years old?"

We say "pop" in Iowa, when I lived down south I just called it soda to avoid confusion. I really don't bat an eye either way, call it what ya want.

Here in central Texas, most people call it coke, if asked what they want to drink. The person will then ask them what kind they want and then the person will specify whether they want an actual Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Big Red, etc...

When I moved from Wisconsin to Arizona, I had asked where the soda aisle was, and they took me to the liquor department.
Now I refer to it as Coke or Pepsi

    That's rude of him.

It's pop to me. Soda is fine, but why do certain areas call all pop "coke"? That makes no sense. As in: "what kind of coke do you want?" I mean seriously. Coke is a type of pop, it's not all pop.

Grew up saying pop, changed to soda in college.

I was only 50 miles from where I grew up, too.

Also, switched from water fountain to bubbler.

    "Coke"

Seriously. I have relatives from the south and they called everything coke.

Oh, I'm sorry, you wanted a Mt. Dew coke.

^^This is the case in many southern states. People ask for a Mountain Dew Coke. It's freaky.

    For me it's pop (Minnesota).

I grew up in California so they call it soda but went up to the Midwest and they say pop. Doesn't matter to me.

Soda in NJ, me and my cousin argue about it all time who's from Chicago where they say pop. Oh and it's sneakers not gym shoe's dammit lol.

The generic use of Coke for all soda (or pop) is interesting.

From Ohio like Denise, and the only times I'd use the word soda is saying:

    1) The POP flavor "cream soda"
    2) Baking soda

    O-H

This is especially cringe-worthy, since Mt. Dew is a Pepsi product :zombies_lol:

That's the result of effective marketing. Like Kleenex or Xerox.
