I am intrigued with the developing relationship between Daryl and Lydia.

Okay, eww gross NO not THAT kind of relationship!!

Up until 915 Daryl's role in Lydia's life was reluctant overseer. Then in 915 that began to change. He was genuinely concerned for her well being. He was worried that Alpha had killed her. He tells Alpha that yes, in fact, he can keep her safe and that he will keep her safe. He is with her when she goes to place her necklace on the hill

In 916 he calls down Alden for being rude to her. He tells Carol that she is a good kid. He is obviously worried when he does not see her among the travelers.

So yep, I am intrigued by this possible Daryl and Lydia/Father and Daughter dynamic

Daryl definitely has a great deal of compassion for victims of abuse, Carol and now Lydia being biggest examples of that.

In the entire episode it was Lydia who broke my heart the most

I get that he and Carol share a past of abuse but the Daryl/Lydia dynamic, to me, comes across as far more powerful

I think with Lydia it is quite personal for him. They are both children of abuse. He has lived with what she is dealing with. He knows what it is to be child who is not only physically abused but also mentally and emotionally abused. He is able to empathize with her feeling unworthy of anyone's love or compassion.

It has the potential, if handled with kid gloves, to be a beautiful and healing relationship for both of them

Both. :). I can't make posts longer than a few sentences for some reason so I typed it out, and copied and pasted it as a photo. ;)

I love how he is protective of her. I'm curious as to why she wasn't in Alexandria when that was where she was granted asylum. I know Daryl is watching over her and chose the Kingdom, but I wouldn't want to be where I was the cause of the deaths.

It’s not just family abuse that binds them. He is passing on his wisdom for how he survived in the pre-apocalypse days when the entire world looked at him like dirt.

You don’t have to protect me. I know how they feel about me.
Well, don’t mean they get to talk to you like that.
Just don’t want to cause any more problems.
    It’s their problem. Not yours.

I really feel like he's speaking not just from a place of experience, but also probably that child abuse book he grabbed back in 5x06 ("Consumed"). Some of the stuff he says sometimes is pretty deep and I wonder if he's been reading a lot about abuse throughout theseries.

Linking those pieces together really makes me love how Daryl is developing as a character.

wow! I had already marked the post above with Like. We've lost a lot of our reaction buttons. What we needed was more reaction buttons.

Weird, the reaction buttons were there just a little while ago and now they’re gone. I thought it was me having problems since I was having issues posting too, but now I see I’m not the only one.

I am totally loving Daryl’s new relationships lately, first him and Connie and now this “fatherly/brotherly/protector” thing with Lydia. I loved how he accompanied her to the pikes and brought her food and stood up for her. It’s especially nice to see him bonding with new people especially considering that he isolated himself for so long after Rick dissapeared.
