Q&A / Spoiler Details of FTWD 2x09 / Los Muertos

1- Why do the men from the gang beat Nick? What wrong did he do?
Luciana and Nick go on a mision to trade some drugs for water, food and supplies with a local gang, and Nick steals a package of cupcakes. Nick proves to be very useful with his knowledge of drugs, specifically Oxy. That gang is about to cut off his hand for stealing, but he talks his way out on it because he noticed the gang member’s sister is an adict. He basically threatens to not bring them anymore drugs unless they let him go.

2- Why does Madison, Alicia, Strand and Ofelia get separated? What do they plan to do?
Alycia suggests going off with Ofelia to search all of the hotel rooms in the tower for supplies while Madison and Strand stay downstairs.

3- Is Alejandro a bad person? What exactly does he do at the Colonia? How does he work?
I don’t think so (at least not yet). He’s their community doctor/pharmacist but he is also their spiritual leader. He teaches that the dead are only “passing through” to their final resting place, and when they finally leave the world will be cleansed like new.

4- Why Madison and Alycia keep arguing?
Madison wants to keep looking for Nick, but Alycia says it’s pointless and believes they will never see Nick again.

5- What happens with Nick and Luciana at the end of the episode?
Luciana is mad because Nick stole the cupcakes but does seem to understand why he did it (he stole them to give to the Little girl whose father had to sacrifice himself to the Wall)

6- What do Madison and Strand do downstairs?
He and Madison get drunk at the hotel bar. Strand talks about what he woild have done if he had met Madison at the hotel before everything happened. He said he would buy her a drink and come onto her because “he is a seducer of people” Madison talks about Nick and how he’s “dark” and so much like his father.

7- Do we see them fighting with the infected?
Nobody fights with infected until the end, after Strand and Madison makes so much noise and attracts all of the walkers that had been lurking around the hotel. They are surrounded by walkers in the hotel bar.

8- What happens with Alicia and Ofelia?
Alicia is all by herself in one of the hotel rooms. And Ofelia has run off and is MIA.

9- Something else you want to share with us about the episode?
I think Alejandro, the Colony’s leader, may have been bitten and survive the bite. Luciana says so, and then, Nick sees what appears to be a healed bite on Alejandro’s shoulder at the end of the episode.

    Thanks to our source!

Hmm. That end part (Alejandro survivng a bite) is interesting but, as we all know (right?!), can't be true - not a] eith TWD not having encountered such and b] so early in the series. Anyone have any guesses as to the reason for this? Did he have a healthy person bite him to intentionally mislead, or is it a misunderstanding/ assumption that his wound is a bite? Or what?

It will turn out to be something other than a walker bite. Maybe a dog bite or some other injury that looks like a bite, and he will use it to prove his status as a demigod. Like the way Jesus walked on his brother Brogart's shoulders and said it was just water there.

So Strand and Madison get drunk together huh? Sounds fun, maybe I should drink for this episode too.
And Nick stealing cupcakes for a little girl is damn sweet. He really has a good heart, its too bad about his addiction.

He's THE MURPHY!!!! FTWD is having a Z-Nation Crossover! :D

On a serious note - it could be plausible. Statistically the idea that nobody has any immunity is a near impossibility....

True, its very possible some people could be partially or completely immune. In their universe the % that are immune would have to be EXTREMELY low, because we are dealing with such a small survival rate of the plague, yet have met no one who has survived a bite. If Kirkman's statement about the backdrop being a world where only 1 in 5000 people are still alive is true, then statistically, with such a small % survival rate, many of the survivors should actually have the story of being bitten and still surviving. In fact, those survivors would likely outweigh the survivors who have never been bitten [like everyone we've ever met on the show]. This is getting technical and nitpicky, but if there is a population that is immune, it would have be one in millions, or less, to get the picture we see on TWD.

I personally like the universe where no one is immune, and I hope they don't actually go that route in this show, mainly because its a side-story that is really perpendicular the basic survival story that TWD is about.

Although - in many cases the sheer amount of physical trauma sustained would preclude even an immune person's survival. Take for example "Dale". We don't really KNOW if he's immune or not, because the zombie attack left him mortally wounded. Ditto for Amy - she succumbed to exsanguination, not the fever. To be technical - we don't know if Jim woke up the following day, discovered his fever broke, and went on his merry way. Maybe the amputation didn't save Herschel, maybe he was simply immune. We don't really have any data to go on from the show, because in my recollection we never really saw anyone turn from the bite - without an intervening death. Amy bled out, died, and resurrected. We don't know what happened to Jim. Tiny was killed. Laurie's body was totally consumed. Milton wasn't bitten he was fatally stabbed. So was shane. Otis was swarmed and consumed. Andrea killed herself before turning. Herschel's leg was amputated and he was decapitated. Patrick died without being bitten and turned. Bob was bitten but in the mean time had his leg amputated and thus sustained serious trauma and blood loss at the hands of the termites. I can't actually recall an instance in which we saw a person bitten and turn, without dying from trauma rather than the bite.

That said - the idea of an immune population could make for an interesting twist. Particularly if they had some connection to or power over the walkers afterwards. That could provide a pretty cool twist for the Whisper's arc. People who can walk with the zombies, and even command them or use them as weapons, because they are immune bite survivors who the zombies now see as one of them.

Sure, there would be many variables in the equation that would make the true statistics impossible to calculate. But the basic premise would remain. In order for us to have never met a known person who survived a bite, would mean the immunity is very very rare.

Oh dear, please, no plotline with immune people having power over walkers....please, Tom Cruise's diety, no.....please writers, leave that shite for Z Nation lol.

We can only take Morgan's word for it. He said his wife was bitten, and died after she had a fever.
