I think it's a sign of respect more than anything. They want him to have some dignity and not turn into a walker. The group probably would have had this discussion, like who wanted to be left to be a walker and who didn't. It doesn't seem like a nice discussion, but it's basically like the 'I want to be buried/cremated' discussion.

This is evident in the Jim wanting to be a walker, and other members of the group wanting to be shot. I doubt Oscar managed to discuss this with the group, but Maggie either assumed this was what they do when someone dies, as she also instructed Carl to shoot Lori, or the dignity thing.

 

Yeah I completely agree it is very considerate personally though I wouldn't even mind coming back if it meant saving 5 people from my group

 

Yeah. Oscar died helping Maggie, so as a thank you she stopped him being a walker.

I wished he was around longer, I really do. Him and Axel were really interesting characters just the two of them talking.

I actually liked Oscar in his limited time on the show. He wasn't a top tier character or anything, but wish he stuck around for a little while longer.
