I read a piece on this about a year or so ago. She's liberal, but her father enjoyed listening to Limbaugh so she allowed him to continue to use the intro. At some point in Limbaugh's rancid career he attacked Hynde by saying he used the song as a dig to the environmental wacko who wrote it.

At that stage she took legal action and told him he could keep the song as long as he donated the proceeds to PETA. Limbaugh caved and did it.

So I watched the 1958 production of South Pacific on the plane and you know who was in it? Ray Walston!

What? You didn’t know that? Was it the first time you’ve seen the film? It was a beautifully done screen version of Rodgers and Hammersteins’s musical.

Well... I sort of remember bits of it on t.v. probably from when I was in middle or elementary school. I've seen South Pacific as a musical a couple of times, but the film? Not as an adult. It's really a wonderful story, both romantic and poignant and shows the arbitrariness of war.

It also had a strong message about racial prejudice. All and all, two thumbs up, lol.

I remember Ray Walston very well as the judge on Picket Fences back in the early 90’s. And Old Candy in Of Mice and Men. A fine actor.

Mary Tyler Moore died!... again o_O. The BBC posted her death as breaking news and subsequently retracted it. A bit of humor for our obit column.

"BBC News was the first outlet Thursday to report on the passing of television legend Mary Tyler Moore -- more than four years after she actually died.

The venerable British broadcaster's "Breaking News" Twitter account raised eyebrows when it shared the obituary of the American icon.

"Emmy award-winning US actress Mary Tyler Moore dies aged 80, her publicist says," the account tweeted. "

Ya know, her face looked so familiar but I couldn’t remember where I’d seen her. I never saw Play Misty for Me. So when I looked up her body of film work I saw that she had guest starred in a whole bunch of shows I’d watched ages ago. What I discovered was that her husband of 36 yrs., Rob Leibman (another actor you’ve probably seen in a number of television shows), had died in December of 2019. She only lived a little more than a year without him. RIP.

Oh for heavens sake, they probably had her confused with Jessica Walter.

Beloved children’s author Beverly Cleary has died at 104. You or you child may have read her Ramona, Ellen Tebbits or Henry Huggins books among others. She even wrote three “Beaver” books based on the TV series. RIP.
