So did most all job professions die during the ZA?

So apparently the only professions that survived were Cop, Environmental Lawyer, Doctor, Hick, country girl ...etc. Where are all the plumbers, mechanics, engineers, welder, carpenters etc...... If only they had a good engineer to help the dumb architect build a wall. What im saying is that there is no good cross section of society on this show. A good engineer would have designed a zombie slicer and diced machine that would have killed every Zombie in the pit.

Not sure where this is coming from. Other professions clearly survived. Reg was an architect, which is the reason they had walls in the first place. They have a construction team that keeps the wall up now and maybe that was one of their professions at some point. Just because every member of Alexandria hasn't specifically said what they did before the ZA doesn't mean they didn't have jobs in those fields.

Now, if what you are saying is that most of the professions that survived have little purpose in the ZA, then you're right, but that's because most professions in general would have little practical use if society collapsed. Lawyers, writers, teachers, actors, journalists.... Their skills would be, at least for a while, useless. It would be the hunters, the mechanics, the people who could perform survival skills with their hands that would be valued. Among the main characters, there have been some essential skills/jobs: Rick's role as a cop may be irrelevant now, but his ability to shoot a gun isn't. Hershel and Maggie were farmers, and the group used their knowledge to provide for themselves in the prison. Dale knew how to work engines, and he showed Glenn (and that came up again in season 5 as important.) Daryl may be a hick, but he was also the must equipped to survive when it came to hunting, further proving that the skills mainstream society sees as "valuable" or not would be completely reversed in such a situation.

I was in a class once where we were talking about something like this and our professor actually asked us, "The world has ended and supplies are limited. Why do we keep you alive?" You had to come up with a skill that made you worthwhile in such a world. Some people could; one girl flat-out said, "Nothing, just get rid of me now." Ha.

Throught out the show I think they've done a great job of including people from all walks of life. We've had everything from bikers, ex cons, and gangbangers to Congresswoman, Professor and Surgeon.

It would come off a little too convenient if there was a former expert available for every problem. People like Merle & Daryl, the Claimers, the prison inmates, the Vatos...likely not career oriented folks pre ZA...but still had skills that aided in their survival and survival of others.

Where were the trolls during the off season? When we actually wanted to play with them.

Yeah if only that dumb architect could have built a wall that could withstand a 16 wheeler smashing into it...

And Hershel was a veterinarian, not just a farmer. Recognize.

Lol. He was too busy building his Slicer-Dicer Zombie Killing Machine to wipe out the pit walkers. Which he knew nothing about.

All they had to do was take one of the excavators and dig a trench all the way around the wall. No vehicle could hit the wall and it would slow the walkers down as they fell into it. Like a moat. Doesn't even have to be filled with water. That town has been there for two years - don't tell me they didnt have time

What I want to see is where all the people who were preparing for the zombie apocalypse for a long time are. There are tons of survivalist and people in the real world just waiting for something like this to happen. Survivalist groups, Soldiers, militia groups and more. People that would have been ready from day one.

They were all too prepared. As we speak, they are kicking back in their bunkers and enjoying their 30 year supply of rations and reaping the benefits of their self-sustaining fish hatchery/water garden. They would have no need to come up for air for decades still.

Not to take it out of context, I think you make good points. But let's remember in the walking dead universe there was no zombie culture. The idea of corpses coming back alive and eating people had not crossed anyone's mind before the outbreak. Nobody was prepared for this.

I always thought Milton was an engineer of some sort.
The pits dug around Woodbury for walkers to fall into, the bite-proof armor.
Pretty good at his craft until Andrea got her way with him!!
