Maybe they told everyone to go inside their homes because a group of loose cannons was about to walk through the gate.

They probably saw that there was no Beth with them and were immediately excited!

 

In the comics, weren't al the citizens frolicking in the streets like life was still normal and it was so jarring for Rick and co?

 

Yeah, there was a group of kids kicking a ball around. The children noises were probably a nod to that. But there were also people, like Regina, that were very upset that Rick's group was just brought in without more precautions.

 

Alexandria is just another Terminus only they lure you in with the sound of children playing on a PA system

They play pre-recorded sounds of kids playing while they warm up the grill and sharpen their knives.

 

which begs the question, what happened to the children they recorded?

Rick could be delusional again. If there were children, it doesn't seem likely that they would be allowed to make so much noise. Aaron told Rick that Judith could cry and not be heard in their "community" outside the wall.

 

The lack of zombie parts and blood near the gates are... interesting.
And that front door is not really convincing.

 

you guys are ruining this form with all this talk about what is in the comics. This is about a TV show a lot of us have not read the comics. there is a complete section dedicated to the comic books.

Woodbury was not a bad place. Everybody there was good people. The Governor was the only thing evil there.

The Governor was bad. Not Woodbury.

Now Terminus on the other hand...
