Did you read the comments? Someone wrote that iguanas were attracted to red nail polish. Maybe they’re used to people feeding them. Personally, I wouldn’t be sunning myself or doing yoga poses or anything else in an area where there were so many lizards. Did you note how many were on the beach? *shivers*

I didn’t see that one. I remember they were like squirrels in Cancun back in 96. Everywhere. If you sat down, you couldn’t leave your food or drink unattended. You had to watch out for them on the road. Those in the video are pretty small.

Christ! They get bigger? The ones I saw in St. Thomas, I guess, must have been on the smaller side too. Anything bigger than a salamander gives me the creeps.

At the zoo we had ones with two ft bodies but he tails were super long. A buddy of mine had a six footer in his back yard until it got stolen. He raised it from a baby. It would sit on his shoulder.

I think it's amazing they've proliferated so well there. I figured that mammals pretty much displaced reptiles when the two had overlapping habitats, but it appears not to always be the case.

Terrorism? Racial Troubles? Plain ol' crazy? Where to put this??? Anyway, the story is that someone who was a biological man is now a woman though the magic of transgender acceptance blew up a mosque, and wants to have their sentence decreased because of gender dysphoria and some inner conflict regarding Muslims. I've got to say if she was a real woman who was previously living in and abused in a Muslim country, I'd give a bit of serious thought to her sentence, but in this "woman"'s case? I don't know. He might have just decided that being a she beat going to jail. Personally, I'd say that he was a man at the time of his crime, he should do his time "like a man".

I pity the poor judge here, though. No matter *what* he decides SOMEONE is going to call him a bigot!

"The founder of a militia group who was convicted of bombing a Minnesota mosque in 2017 now wants to be legally recognized as a transgender woman, as her public defender asks a federal judge to grant the minimum sentence on the grounds that gender dysphoria and online anti-Muslim content fueled an "inner conflict" leading up to the attack, according to court documents."

What is it about pizzas and violence? In Oregon a woman threatened to kidnap a young boy and threatened his parents with an axe and a machete outside ... wait for it... a pizza restaurant! Next time I want a pizza I'll have it delivered!

Well, that's not really true, I'm too thrifty to spend the extra couple of bucks for delivery, I suppose I'll have my husband pick it up instead. That's just as safe.;)

So the baby on the Nirvana album cover has grown up and is suing the band and everyone else for being treated "like a sex worker". Actually, Mr. Elden, I'd bet there are very few actual sex workers out there who'd agree your life as a baby was anything at all like theirs. I'm having trouble with the whole "I've been scarred for life from this" thing too, but I'll leave that for later.

    "
Spencer Elden, the man who was photographed as a baby on the album cover for Nirvana's Nevermind, is suing the band alleging sexual exploitation.

The cover depicts Elden as a four-month-old in a swimming pool, grasping for a dollar bill that's being dangled in front of him on a fishing line.

Now 30, Elden says his parents never signed a release authorising the use of his image on the album.

He also alleges the nude image constitutes child pornography.

"The images exposed Spencer's intimate body part and lasciviously displayed Spencer's genitals from the time he was an infant to the present day," legal papers filed in California claim.

Non-sexualised photos of infants are generally not considered child pornography under US law.

However, Elden's lawyer, Robert Y. Lewis, argues that the inclusion of the dollar bill (which was superimposed after the photograph was taken) makes the minor seem "like a sex worker".

He claims he "has suffered and will continue to suffer lifelong damages" as a result of the artwork, including "extreme and permanent emotional distress" as well as "interference with his normal development and educational progress" and "medical and psychological treatment".

He is asking for damages of at least $150,000 (£109,000) from each of the 15 defendants, who include surviving band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic; the manager's of Kurt Cobain's estate; Cobain's former wife Courtney Love; and photographer Kirk Weddle.

"GQ: When did you realise being the Nirvana baby was such a big deal?

Spencer Elden: I’ve been going through it my whole life. But recently I’ve been thinking, ‘What if I wasn’t OK with my freaking penis being shown to everybody? I didn’t really have a choice.

In the past you’ve said it was cool. When did that change?

Just a few months ago, when I was reaching out to Nirvana to see if they wanted to be part of my art show. I was getting referred to their managers and their lawyers. Why am I still on their cover if I’m not that big of a deal?"

He's suing them because they snubbed his "art" show. He's been stewing about it since 2016.

Here's something nutty. Harvard has elected an atheist to be its head chaplain! Harvard was founded as a school to train the clergy, and now its spiritual head is an athiest? At some point you have to wonder when we'll hear the first trumpet blowing...

    "
Greg Epstein, 44, took up the role this week, becoming the first atheist elected president of Harvard's organization of chaplains.

"I'm obliged and honored," he wrote on Twitter.

Epstein has been Harvard's humanist chaplain since 2005 and is the author of the bestselling book "Good Without God: What a Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe."

I think it was his last hearing where he dropped the stance that he didn’t remember doing it. He gave a reason and admitted his actions. That may be why he wasn’t blocked this time.

A "like son, like father" story. A man pulled a gun on his father and started shooting at him. The police arrived and the man shot at them. They shot back, mortally wounding him. The man's *father* picked up the gun from his fallen son and HE started shooting at police, who shot back at him. No one in the latter encounter were hit, though. The father is the one who interests me. 45 years old with 60 arrests. If his juevenile records were sealed, that means he had 60 arrests in 27 years! I mean, seriously, can't you keep it down to less than two arrests per year? Talk about leading a life of crime! Why was this man still on the streets?

"NEW YORK — As a man lay dying on a Bronx street from a shootout with police, his father snatched the gun from the son’s hands — and used it to continue the gun battle with officers, authorities said.

The father and son had been in an argument with a group of people on the corner when it turned physical and the son pulled out the gun, cops said.

“It was more than 10 shots I heard,” said a resident who didn’t want to be named. “When I came to the window they still was banging, ‘Bop, bop, bop, bop, bop,’ it stopped then, ‘Bop, bop, bop.’”

The officers, who were in plainclothes after finishing their workday, identified themselves and told the shooter to drop his weapon but the gunman instead pointed it at them and began unloading, officials said. Nobody was struck.

The police officers returned fire and fatally struck the gunman once in the chest, cops said.

Uniformed officers from the 46th Precinct station house a block away swarmed the area after they heard the shots.

“Immediately after shooting, the officers began rendering aid to the 24-year-old male,” NYPD Chief of Patrol, Juanita Holmes said at a press conference.

In a wild turn of events, the gunman’s 45-year-old father picked up the firearm from his dying son’s hand and began firing at cops but nobody was struck, police said. Police returned fire but the dad was not hit."

I believe now it goes to the larger parole board. Hopefully he's not released. The governor would still have final say though and could deny it. There will be considerable pressure to keep him in prison, so my guess is it's not going to happen.

So here's the thing. A new restrictive abortion law is about to go in to effect in Texas. Planned Parenthood, etc. filed suit to stop it, and the 5th circuit turned them down on Sunday. My first thought was, "Sunday? I didn't know that judges worked on Sundays". It hit me then that there really wasn't any reason that PP couldn't have filed their suit last Wednesday or Thursday for example, but really they must have waited for the weekend to file their suit so that the result would hit the newspapers on Monday. How cynical is that? It's so "emergent" that you have to file an emergency suit, but... it's not so "emergent" that you'll let it go to waste as a crisis for the new week. Sad.

A Texas law that would ban abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected is set to go into effect on Wednesday after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals canceled a hearing that was supposed to take place Monday.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, filed emergency motions asking the court to either put the law on hold with a stay or send the case back to district court, but the Fifth Circuit turned them down on Sunday, the Texas Tribune reported.

"If this law is not blocked by September 1, abortion access in Texas will come to an abrupt stop," Marc Hearron, senior counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights, said in a statement published by the Tribune.

The law not only prohibits abortion if there is a fetal heartbeat – which can be detectable as early as six weeks into pregnancy, before many women even know they are pregnant – but it also allows anyone other than government employees to sue someone who performs, assists with, or pays for an abortion in violation of the law.

Opponents of the law are concerned that this provision could result in people flooding the courts with lawsuits against doctors, nurses or even friends who drive women to clinics.

The law only allows for exceptions "if a physician believes a medical emergency exists that prevents compliance[.]"

While the law does not criminalize abortions, it does impose stiff civil penalties, calling for statutory damages of at least $10,000 per abortion. It also seeks to limit defenses, stating that those who perform abortions cannot use as a defense that they relied on a court decision that was later overruled.

In China the new rule is to only let people under 18 y/o play video games 3 hours per week, one hour on Fri, Sat, and Sunday. The .gov is asking the video game companies to enforce that as well. Chinese Freedom.

"According to a translated notice about the new rules, people under 18 will be allowed to play video games one hour a day between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. weekends and legal holidays. The agency billed the rules as a way to safeguard children's physical and mental health."
