FTWD 508 "Is Anybody Out There?" Full Summary

***This post contains a summary of the entirety of episode 508.***

Episode starts at the factory with a flashback of the group calling out over the radio looking for people to help. It then moves to present day with Logan being confronted by his convoy group. They have torn apart the factory and dug up all the grounds but haven't been able to find something that Logan thought was at the factory. They are upset about being unable to find what they are looking for and blame Logan and threaten to kill him.

Alicia has met back up with Morgan and Grace. She is taking a shower at Grace's truck. Grace tells her that whatever radiation Alicia was exposed to won't matter if they can't get out of the area in time. Morgan keeps watch in the distance and discovers they haven't been able to lose the herd. So they decide to continue moving the herd as far away from the runway area as possible. They get into Grace's truck and she attempts to lead the herd back into the radiation zone. However, once they arrive at the border, the klaxons stop. They hear an explosion and a large dark cloud starts to fill the sky above the power plant. At that point, Grace tries to back out of the area, but ends up crashing the truck into one of the barrier cars and the truck becomes attached. The herd is now focused on them again. Morgan radios to the group at the plane that they are heading back now and to get ready because they'll have a herd behind them.

The plane has been towed to a long, open stretch of road. The kids help clear the road of debris while the adults are preparing the plane for takeoff. Luciana has been keeping in touch with Morgan as they were figuring out what to do with the herd (prior to their truck becoming immobilized). June was finally able to get in touch with John. He is with Dwight. They had found a car with gas, but the car just stalled out on them and they are now stranded about 15-20 miles away from the runway. John and Dwight also see the plume of smoke from the power plant. He is afraid that he won't make it back so he makes June promise him that she will get on the plane when it comes time to take off and that she will find something to live for and keep living. June promises.

The plane is ready for take off. They are waiting for Morgan and his group. He appears out of the tree line a ways down the road behind the plane. Him, Alicia and Grace are running down the road with a walker herd not far behind. Morgan makes the call to stall as long as possible to give John and Dwight a chance to make it to the plane. They prepare to make their stand against the oncoming walkers, and then June tells them no. She made a promise to John. The plane is ready for departure. They can't wait. So they run towards the plane just as Dwight and John appear in a car, honking the horn and swerving around the herd. John and Dwight get into the plane. They cut loose the cargo netting that some of the walkers from the herd became entangled in, and the plane takes off towards home.

Meanwhile, back at home. Sarah and Wendell have been preparing the run way for their group's arrival. Wendell has been clearing the runway while Sarah drove to the factory to confront Logan (who now has a shiner under his left eye). Logan is on his way out. Since he couldn't find what he was looking for he is leaving the factory and tells Sarah they can have it back now. Sarah makes a very well thought out, passionate plea for him and his convoy to help light up the runway for the plane's return. Logan refuses. He doesn't help people. So Sarah returns to the runway with the only things she could find at the factory, three flares. As she and Wendell discuss the situation, Daniel pulls up. He has heard the chatter on the radio and brought some equipment from his warehouse. By night time, the runway has been outlined by multi-colored outdoor bulbs. While Sarah and Daniel finish with the lights at one end, Wendell is at the other monitoring the generator.

The plane approaches and Strand calls over the radio that they are low on fuel. He and Al spot the lit up runway and start to make their approach for it. Just at the moment, walkers appear near Wendell. He manages to stop one, but a second walker trips over the power cord and unplugs the lights from the generator. The plane is now low on fuel and the engines are acting up. There are no lights for the runway, but Al and Strand have to attempt the landing. Wendell manages to get the lights back on in the nick of time for Al and Strand to avoid crashing the plane. The plane lands safely and everyone is reunited.

The reunion is short lived however when Logan pulls up in his car. He tells them that Clayton was able to predict the problem with gasoline was going to occur and so he had set up a group of people to help cultivate a resource to solve that problem. However, the location is in Clayton's journal. That's what he and his convoy group have been looking for. However, Logan is now wanting to join up with their group instead of the convoy. He tells them that if they want to keep helping people, they need to be able to get around. He can help them with that if they let him join their group.
