This may stir the pot as we await the next season.
I admit to not having read the comics.
But I HATE it when people compare the plot of the tv shows to the comic books. It's so obvious from posts on the forum that there are such significant differences I don't see the point in making comparisons.
Some viewers seem to get so upset when the plots don't sync. You should know by now it ain't going to happen all the time so stop trying to match the two.

Guys, just because the show is based on the comics doesn't mean you should ever compare the two, sheesh. Just stop.

I don't get upset when the stories don't perfectly follow the comics unless it's something pretty big...for example, I'll admit I was disappointed about how Andrea ended up in the show since she's such a huge part of the comics.

I think hearing about the comics is just something you have to get used to though...since the show was created from the comics. It's just a fact of life. Read them and you'll see why!

This too, may stir a pot. But - only people who haven't read the comic, would say something like that.
Seriously, sometimes the comic storyline is better then the show. And vice versa.
I liked the way they did the whole prison downfall, on the show, instead of the comic.
    You should really read them.

Is it really so obvious? Are the differences really in fact, so significant that it's absolutely pointless to compare and contrast the two mediums?

I think not. If you're looking for proof, take a look at the official TWD "Panel to Screen" comparison archive. You will find, that the "differences" are anywhere near as significant as you claim. It's the polar opposite actually.

I like comparing them. The show and the comics are both pretty awesome, and I like seeing the changes that are made. Some of them I highly dislike (Andrea dying/Grady Memorial Hospital/the existence of Beth), some of them I absolutely love (Tara/Terminus/Shane).

It's not like they're so radically different that it's a completely unrecognisable story. It still follows the comics pretty closely. They're just missing certain elements and have original elements thrown in. Andrea's gone in the show, Daryl never existed in the comics, Carol was a nutter who died ages ago. Other than those things, basically the same.

I've only ever seen people be upset if there's a radical change that alters the story in a major way, which is very rare (pretty much just Andrea/Woodbury). Other than that I bitch occasionally about certain moments that didn't happen the way I'd hoped or how I'd have done things slightly differently, but never really get upset. For the most part it's very fun to compare the comics and the show - ESPECIALLY when there are awesome changes being made.

Hmm. I kinda agree in a way. Mainly because I think comic readers have more of a perception on how the show "should" go and how certain characters "should" be and seem to nit pick more than non comic readers. Then when the show changes them you see a lot of fans judge the show based on how the comics went or how the character was. I have seen many comic readers who actually liked the way some of the changes were made. I think in my personal opinion non comic readers have a more non biased view on the show because we don't compare it to anything and just judge from what we see on the show. If I don't like a character on the show its not because they were different in the comics. But I do get why comic readers compare the 2 and it does make sense. Same as when ppl read a book and then go watch the movie based on the book. It's only natural and I don't think they should stop but I do love reading ppls views who haven't read the comics because they usually aren't comparing it to anything. Even tho some comic readers I've seen have such deep viewpoints its really interesting to read yall opinions. Especially @jwcoombs . You should really start a blog with how deep some of the posts I have seen from you have been lol

The show is adapting from the comics and using the same material but then butchering half of it. So long as the show takes material from the comics which will be as long as it runs, it will always be compared to them.

TWD was meant to be a somewhat close adaption with some minor changes on the way like the ages of characters and how some appeared or didn't appear but nonetheless the story and main gist of it was meant to stay the same. When Darabont was removed fromt he show, his replacement Glenn (Massacre) Mazzara aka one of the biggest hacks n television took the story, lit it on fire and then shit on the pages while they burned.

Scott Gimple however is working to keep the show in-line with the comics which basically means the comparisons will only become more and more frequent. If you don't like that then avoid comment sections and forums for the show as much as possible.

    Stop whining about stupid shit.

This may stir the pot as we await the next season.
I admit to being a sarcastic prick with anger problems.
But I HATE it when people complain about stupid shit that doesn't effect them. It's obvious from posts on the forum that there are people in the world who should not be allowed, by law, to walk around in public without an escort to make sure they don't lick windows.
Some people get so upset over stupid shit that doesn't effect them. You should know by now if you shove a fork into an electrical outlet, you won't become a superhero, so stop trying it.

False! This is actually how the human race developed opposable thumbs. We originally had paws.

It's how I evolved into Rambol (which autocorrected to Stannis. That means something).

I think the comic has a more consistant story than the tv show, but I lovvvvvvvvve seeing those scenes come to life. Like the Rick biting Joes neck scene is one of the best comic comparisons ever. Gimps is doing a good job for the most part when recreating scenes from the comics.

LIES!! I shoved a fork into an outlet when I was 9 years old and woke the next morning feeling energized; and discovered I had developed the supernatural powers of arrhythmia and irregular heart beat! With great power comes great responsibility.

Also, the exact strength, quality, and variety of powers obtained through this tried and true method directly relates to the voltage of the outlet, as well as the type and composition of the utensil used.
If you shove a sterling silver butter knife into a 240v appliance outlet you will develop the ability to piss 50,000 volts of direct current electricity. As well as the uncanny and much sought after power of impotency and a complete imperviousness to static electrical charges. Take that wool sweaters, carpet, and balloons!
